Teree Vijaay haain!!!

Re: Teree Vijaay haain!!!

As Babloos mentioned earlier, Ekalavya was truly noble. He was born in a low caste and wanted to learn archery, which was taught only to Kshatriyas. Dronacharya (a Brahmin) was the best Guru (Arjuna was his favorite pupil). Ekalayva build Drona's statue, paid respect each day to Drona, and practised archery, considering Drona as his Guru. Soon, he became the best archer and word of his prowess reached Arjuna. Arjuna approached Drona and asked him to demand Gurudakshina from Ekalavya. He asked Drona to demand that Ekalavya cut off his right thumb and give it to Drona as Gurudakshina (fee to Guru). When Drona reached Ekalavya's residence in the forest, Ekalavya knew exactly why Drona had come there for. When Drona demanded Ekalavya's thumb, the latter cut it off without any hesitation and gave it to Drona.

Thus Arjuna retained his stature as the best archer of his time.

Re: Teree Vijaay haain!!!

Interesting... there are few things if they can be cleared here!!!

1) The Queen Qandhari gave birth to 100 children! I understand this thing that in old times human use to live longer, can anyone tell me the average age of those times...

2) They went on war to get the land! however, any other reason for the war is not stated, i.e., one clan fighting over a heir-ship and using all means to win... these kind of wars have happened all the times and it will take place till the end of man-kind...what makes this war so important?

3) I would like to know that what kind of rulers Kauravs were? is there hint that gives us any shed any light on that issue?

This is to start with!!!

Re: Teree Vijaay haain!!!

Vitro Fertilization

1) According to Mahabharata ,the birth of Gandhari's sons was a very unique one. It is said that Gandhari's pregnancy continued for an usually longer period. Her sister in Law had already given birth to her first child and Gandhari was envied of her.In frustration she would beat her womb strongly and a hardened mass of flesh would emerghe out of her womb.Queen Gandhai was devastated by her own action and worshipped the great sage Vyasa to help her out of that situation.(Earlier she was given a blessing by the great sage Vyasa that she would give birth to 100 children).

The great sage Vyasa divided the flesh in to 100 equal pieces and put them in 100 pots of ghees which were sealed and buried in to the earth for 1 year.At the end of the one year, the first pot was opened from which Duryodhana emerged followed by others.

2) They did not fighht just for a piece of land. But the war is termed as a battle between Dhama and Adharma. The war was between Pandavas who fought for justice and equality and Kauravas who wanted to clinch on to their wealth.

3)Kaurava's are generally termed as bad people. But their leader, their king Duryodhana though he had all traits of a crooked leader he did all which was expected of him as a king.He did all the duties of a king.He protected his subjects,he did all charities and donations,he fought the great war keeping all the principles in line and in place and he died like a true legend. The legend has it that he was showered with flowers from heaven while he was taking his last breath.Pls also note that the Kaurava's were seated in heaven and reached that divine spot mmuch before Pandavas.(It's because Pandava's had adopted betrayal forms while fighting the war whereas Kaurava's fought the war in the way a war should have been fought,so they did their duty and went to heaven first).Duryodhana's younger brother Dussasana had tried to molest the chastity of Draupati (who was the wife of Pandava's) and he was especially made a target by the Pandava's in the great battle.

Duryodhana on his death bed ,told his weeping sub jects that he was happy to die because he did everything like a true king, unlike Pandava's he never lived in jungle but he lived in a palace, enjoyed all the beauties and serenties of life ,he did all the charities as he was expected to do,he fought the war like a true champion ,he survived the war and Pandavas could ditch him only through coverted ways and he was sure of his place in heaven.......

Re: Teree Vijaay haain!!!

1) If this is how these 100 Kauravs have born then i'll not many any comment on it... it is your religious believe ...

2) If the war was between Dharma and Adharma, then why was he sent to heaven once defeated?

Re: Teree Vijaay haain!!!

1)Now the science has approved it in one form or the other. :)

Duryodhana though he had all traits of a crooked leader he did all which was expected of him as a king.He did all the duties of a king.He protected his subjects,he did all charities and donations,he fought the great war keeping all the principles in line and in place and he died like a true legend. The legend has it that he was showered with flowers from heaven while he was taking his last breath.Durrodhana seated in heaven and reached that divine spot much before Pandavas. He did his duty like a true warrior and also while taking part in the epic battle he never resorted to any kind of treacherous method to win the war.He fought the war standing by it's rules. Also he was grounded just by betrayal .(During the duel between him and Bhima,Bhima tried to defeat him by whatever ithe duel that neither side would hit below the waist level.Bhima having tried everything and not been successful ,hit on Duryodhana's thigh and he would be grounded.).

Re: Teree Vijaay haain!!!

Re: point 1 - :)
Some of these stories can be "incredible" - but most of us do not think twice about it. Almost like look at big picture, and accept certain bumps along the way.
2) Excellent question. Arlei has done a great job answering. Here is my input.
Kshatriyas were supposed to fight with valor, righteously. (Our Faris is a prototypical Kshatriya and would have done well those days!) While the Pandavas' cause was just, the method they adopted was not. Each of the Kaurava general - Bhishma, Drona, Karna, Duryodhana was killed by deceit. Drinking the blood of your enemy in the battlefield was certainly not noble (Bhima drinking Dushasana's blood).

Duryodhana died in the battlefield. Thus he fulfilled his Dharma - that of a Kshatriya.

Like Arlei, I too do not consider Duryodhana the villain that our epic makes him out to be. He spoke his mind, was loud, and spoilt. But he did embrace Karna (who at that time was only known as son of a charioteer.) Bhima had ridiculed Karna as the son of a charioteer, not fit to compete with Arjuna. But Duryodhana embraced Karna as his friend/brother, and gave him the kingdom of Anga. Just like that.

Re: Teree Vijaay haain!!!

Yeah I agree with the Idea as well Dhuryodhana from my basic understanding of the Epic is like the tragic villain type… He might be the bad guy for a long while through the Epic but his conduct and his demise make him almost appealing like a proto Anti Hero… :konfused:

He definately has his fans.

You really honour me when you say that… :naak:

I have never been called member of a Warrior Class… :cb:

Re: Teree Vijaay haain!!!

Rather than go through the epic in detail (which may be overwhelming), I have tried to focus on great characters and the lessons one can learn from them. We have discussed Ekalavya. Now let us focus on the great Karna.

The great Karna
As we have seen, Karna, born to 16-year old Kunti through Surya Dev (Sun god), was raised by a charioteer and his wife Radha (hence known as Radheya, son of Radha). He had a Kavach Kundal (divine earrings) at birth, that made him undefeatable in war.
One day, there was contest going on in Hastinapura among the Kaurava and Pandava princes, with Arjuna dazzling the elders (Bhishma, Drona, Kripa and others) with his archery skills. Suddenly, there appeared this glorious figure, who matched Arjuna in skill and strength, but with much greater ease and grace. Then he challenged Arjuna to a contest. To which Bhima countered “who are you to challenge this noble prince Arjuna to a contest? What is your lineage?
Karna replied “I am Radheya, son of Radha and a charioteer.”
Bhima ridiculed him thusly “Hay Sutputra (son of a charioteer)! How dare you challenge Srjuna of such noble birth. Take your weapons and get out of here!”
Karna, with head bowed, was about to depart, when Duryodhana thundered “ I hereby crown Karna the king of Anga. He will always be like my brother and will have all the privileges of royalty. Hey Karna, let us get out of here. We do not need to associate ourselves with such people. You are royalty in my eyes”
Karna’s eyes filled up with tears, and his voice, shaken, said “from this day, you are my brother and dear friend. No one has opened their hearts to me as you have. I stake my life for you.”
Thus was born a deep bond between Karna and Duryodhana, which had deep repercussions in the great war of Kurukshetra.

More in next.

Re: Teree Vijaay haain!!!

Excellent question. I never thought of this issue. To the best of my knowledge, they were good and fair rulers.

Re: Teree Vijaay haain!!!

There are a few temples in India dedicated to Mr.Duryodhana.

I will say he was the most luckiest king on earth. He enjoyed everyting,he had everything,he fought the epic war like a true champion, survived the war amid all destructions and great losses and he was only grounded by betrayal ,but got showered by angels from heaven at the time of his last breath yet he went to the great heaven and seated in heaven. Whereas Pandavas though born as royals, had to endure all trials and tribulations of life, had to roam around in jungle in complete secracy, fought the war with dubious distinctions but soon lost their children and others (when the last remnants of Kauravas sneaked in to Pandava’s camp and carried out a bloody massacre, after the great war was over) ,could not even enjoy their kingdom for a long time for which they had longed for a long time ,for which they had fought a fierce battle as they had to leave for their final journey, had to come acros the sad news of the deaths of their beloved people including their own mother and Kaurava’s parents and others, had to first land in hell rather than heaven and HAD TO WITNESS Mr.DURYODHANA BEING PLACED IN HEAVEN MUCH BEFORE THEM.

Re: Teree Vijaay haain!!!

Karna and Bhishma
When Bhishma fell, Karna visited him and asked him why Bhishma disliked him. Bhishma replied - I do not dislike you. I am disappointed you are fighting on the side of evil against good. Do you know you are Kunti's son?
Karna "Yes I do. However, I have eaten Duryodhana's salt. Hence I owe him loyalty."
Bhishma "you are a truly noble man. May victory be yours". Upon hearing those words, Karna with tears streaming down his face, fell at the grandsire's feet.
A few days earlier, Indra (Arjua's father) had come in the guise of a brahmin to trick Karna to give up his kavach kundal (divine earrings that made him invinciblle in war). Karna's father Surya warned him about this. But when Indra showed up, danveer (generous and brave) Karna asked him what he wanted. "Give me your earrings". Karna tore the earrings off and gave it to Indra. Indra was touched- "Do you know who I am" Yes. Tum Dhanya ho! Here, take this javelin - you can use it only once. But it will vanquish your foe". Then Kunti stopped by. Karna, who was again warned by Surya, asked her "mother, what can I do for you". "You are my son, and the Pandavas are your brothers. Fight for them, not against them",
Karna "You have 5 sons now. After the war, you will have 5 sons. I will spare all your sons - but Arjuna - I will fight him to death".

During the war. Krishna tricked Karna into launching the javelin on Ghatotkach. Karna could have killed Bhima but spared him. With his chariot stuck, Krishna ordered Karna to be killed by Arjuna. And Arjuna executed the defenceless Karna.

Kunti knew the moment Karna was struck. She ran to the battlefield, cradled her son in her arms, and wept "I loved you the most, my son"

And so died Danveer Karna, serving his dear Duryodhana to his last breath.
