Hubby and I plan to visit Toronto for 5 days next week.. I want to know few things from the people of Toronto..
Hotel- Where to stay? What area/areas should I be looking at? I want something with ease of acess, close to everything major desi. We do have a car.
Places to see- What are some good places to see around this time. I have no clue about tourism in Toronto. In 5-6 days what are few things that are must see?
Food- We eat only Halal so what are the options during Iftaari and Sehri. Who has the best food for Ramadan? Are desi/halal places open for Sehri??
a) Niagara Falls b) C.N Tower c) Wonderland d) Beaches, whatever is near the location e) Eaton Centre for Shopping f) Casa Loma for architecture buffs g) Royal Ontario museum h) Harbourfront.
You will find plenty @ Gerrard street so don’t you worry about that :).
Toronto is an amazing place, i am sure you will enjoy your stay
Yeah I would love to visit Toronto. I used to live here long time ago but its all different now I am sure. It's been 11 years since I moved to the U.S and I am really really excited about going back and also nervous since I have no clue where to stay what to do..
Should I be staying in downtown area or more of Missisuaga?? I was thinking about area near Square one would be good since there is a closeby highway, but idk. Like I said its been a while since I was there last time.
**you should stay in downtown. Mississauga is about 35 km from downtown. most attractions are downtown. there are some decent hotels in the city center.
if you have kids, there will be CN Exhibition in a week's time where food from kids can have fun on rides. Ontario Place is next door where you can take water slides, watch IMAX movies and not far is the CN Tower where you can experience dining on the revolving deck. they have recently introduced sky-walks on the edge of the donut. it's a bit pricey though at $175.
you can always take a short trips to the Niagara Falls where you can enjoy Guinness Book Museum, take rides or go to nearby Marineland.**
That's a bit pricy huh. Ok so lets say I do end up staying in downtown Toronto, I won't be able to get anything decent for umm lets say $100/night? My kid is 4 month old :D
just to clarify what Zareen said.....Gerard Street is not in Mississauga.....they are two opposites ends of the city......
and quite frankly, the food there isn't all that except for one restaurant called Lahore Tikka.
If food is important then stay in Mississauga.
If sight-seeing is more important then stay downtown.
When are you arriving? We are having iftar for guppies at my place on Sunday and you are welcome with your family. PM me with the details of your trip......
Food options in Mississauga:
Royal Jasmine for hakka
Kara Mia for italian
Pamier Kabab for Afghani
Zauq for Pakistani
Shirin Mahal for baked goods
and several more......
Oh thanks. I remember Lahore Tikka. I used to live in North York but there is nothing there to see. When is the Iftar at your place??? Also, Muzna I know out of topic but you have relatives that lived in North York right?? I may know them. I was wondering where umm lets see if I know them (your sister is)?
There is some other restaurant in the same plaze of sahara for chinese, don't remember its name
Silver Spoon (only take out but food is good)
Cafe De-Khan, Expensive .. but good
Nadir Grills
and if you get chance to go to Ajax then don't miss Affey's Grill ... emm yummy! ..
P.S:
personally, none of the pakistani restaurants in Toronto/mississauga are up to pakistani (lahori's) standard. Sepcially if you have been to lahore then you wouldn't like them. I heard about a lot about Lahore Tikka, went there and it wasn't even close to any lahori' restaurant. but its a good choice among others while you are in toronto.
The best would be to find a hotel in Mississauga. Like you said, its an easy access to highways if you want to travel to downtown, its only a 20 min drive away.
Missisauga has the best foods. All kinds of cuisines are halal. check out www.zabihah.com
you have a 4 month old right? There are great malls - Square One is great. Also Heartland - its an outdoor power centre with block stores. Vaughan Mills is nice too. But crazy busy during the weekends.
There is always somethign to do downtown, like KKF said.
I'm not sure if there are any halal places for Sehri. Try to get a hotel room with a kitchen and you could just buy some stuff and make it in your room. Or at least a microwave, so you coudl bring home leftovers and reheat.
That's a bit pricy huh. Ok so lets say I do end up staying in downtown Toronto, I won't be able to get anything decent for umm lets say $100/night? My kid is 4 month old :D
there are budget hotels as well but thay ain't very good. i think less than a $100 a night in downtown that's decent is NOT possible.
P.S.**
you don't have to fast while you are traveling because it gets very hot N humid plus days are long like 16 hrs long roza.**
