He wasn't INDIAN.
yes yes Hareem is right, not only that he was pakistani, he recently showed up in Zardari's birthday party in Islamabad.
Re: Tell famous poets from your country
errr, the fact that he wrote the famous ‘sare jahan se achcha hindustaan hamara’ made him an indian..

err, lets not go there. 3 reasons. First it was Sir Sayed who originated the theory, not Iqbal. Second is that unfortunately, the theory did not prove itself to be the correct one. Comparatively, Muslims of india are living an equal if not better life than Pakistani Muslims. Third, even if it was a right theory, Pakistan division happen so landlords of sindh/panjab/balochistan/nwfp can keep their lands in their possession, it did not happen so Muslims can live a better life.
I love my country as much as you do, but it does not mean that we should blindly believe what our 5th grade history books tell us.
Re: Tell famous poets from your country
Besides why are we trying to label poets to one particular country some poets pre date our modern political map.
I think a poet is a gem to humanity, so long as his poems are good… ![]()

That is fine. I never said that Iqbal presented this theory on his own, I said he supported it.
So do I have a right on this PAKISTANI forum to claim Allama Iqbal as my country's national poet?

sure, why not. According to Wiki, Khushal Khan Khatak is considered the national poet of Afghanistan although the guy lived in Pakistan part of Khyber all his life.
BTW, should not Hafeez Jullundhri be called our national poet?
