Telephone etiquettes

So you’ll wonder why this thread is in Life1…but it’s about realtionships so that’s why.

  1. How do you handle people who call you repeatedly and don’t leave messages?

  2. Do you think it is OK to eat when talking on the phone?

  3. Do you ask your friends and family if it’s a good time to talk before you begin your conversation?

Re: Telephone etiquettes

2) NO!!! That is so annoying, hearing someone chew on the other line. Ugh!

Re: Telephone etiquettes

  1. I just call them back only a few selected people that I know actually leave messages, no one else does. It really doesn't bother me much but then again maybe I haven't had a real problem with it

  2. A big no no!

  3. No, not every time but if I notice a lot of noise or something then I'll ask. But most of the time if its friends and family they will tell me straight up that their busy and either they'll call back or have me call back in a hour or so

Re: Telephone etiquettes

  1. i don’t call them back.

  2. normally i do have conversation on breakfast table … well with IT team.. but still :chai:

  3. my immediate family & close friends can call me any time.

Re: Telephone etiquettes

How about people who, when they cant hear you properly (although you told them that you can hear them), start screaming from their end, assuming that somehow doing that will make your voice more audible to them.

Re: Telephone etiquettes

i have once or twice encounter such people in my social circle, not a big deal.. :cheegum:

Re: Telephone etiquettes

1) If I know the repeating caller then I call them back and give a piece of my mind...

2) No, I dont eat much and meal times are sacred times... woe betide anyone who gets in my way over food. offcourse if the person disturbs me i will invite them to sit and eat with me but over the phone I will not pick up or answer till my meal is finished.

3) Always, I know what fammily politics is like and always have to dodge the minefield....

Re: Telephone etiquettes

talking and chewing at the same time is a big :nono: What are opinions about drinking though. like sipping chai or big gulps during conversation.

Re: Telephone etiquettes

  1. Don't call them back.

  2. I think it's okay to eat. I eat, drink and sometimes go to the bathroom on the phone too.

  3. No, I don't ask. If someone indicates they're busy, I hang up and call later.

Re: Telephone etiquettes

That should be OK to an extent. But please add to above; blowing nose, coughing and sneezing.

Re: Telephone etiquettes

  1. When someone calls me, I return their call if I know who called. If its an unknown number, I ignore it.

  2. No.

  3. No. My friends and family will tell me if they can't talk for whatever reason.

Re: Telephone etiquettes

I dislike when people leave me messages, I’d rather they miss call or text and I will call them back :snooty:

If it annoys you then yes

No, I am more important

Re: Telephone etiquettes

how about people from back home who think that they have to speak loud (almost shout) because USA/Canada is very far?

Re: Telephone etiquettes

^ :hehe:
Reminds me of my homies… :cb:

I just quitely tell them I still have the same accute hearing and they need not shout. :@:

Re: Telephone etiquettes

I text. That’s a call AND a message all in one :ahaa:

I think I’ve done it a few times, I don’t know if I would mind if someone else did. But if I know someone didn’t like it I wouldn’t…

Personally I don’t talk to many people on the phone at all, so the few people I do–I kinda know when its not a good time to talk to them. I hate leaving voice messages so if a person doesn’t pick up, I just leave a text message instead.

Re: Telephone etiquettes

Mute button zindabad! I take conference calls over lunch and I will eat at my desk but put the other person on mute while I’m chewing (or even coughing or sneezing). You usually know when it’s your turn to speak - so I chew fast to avoid chewing/coughing/sneezing in their ear.

I don’t usually ask if they’re busy - they’ll let me know and I hate when people don’t leave messages - no message, no returned call :snooty:

Re: Telephone etiquettes

Never even thought about these things..

1) Yes, I'll call back even if they don't leave a message. No big deal at all. Not that busy with life either.
2) Never noticed. Doesn't quite matter.
3) Usually start with 'what are you up to'

Re: Telephone etiquettes

Talk about attitude problems
