Get your phone number on Do Not Call registry maintained by the government.
Do not just hang up, because then you are just perpetuating the problem.
If the call is from Dish Network or some other organization that you have a business relation with (your bank, newspaper etc) then before hanging up, ask them to remove your name from whatever list they have. 99% of time, calls from that particular organization will stop.
If the call is from a third party telemarketer, then right at the beginning of the call, tell them that your number is on the Do Not Call list, and you need the name of their organization and his full name to file a formal complaint about the unsolicited call. 90% of the time they will apologize, in which case tell them that they must remove your name from their list and hang up. In the remaining 10% cases, they will say that they are a non-for-proft so are exempt from the Do Not Call list, in which case just insist that you need their full name so you can still file a complaint against them and mention that you are noting down the date and time of the call. In all remaining cases that will scare the person and they will hang up and make sure no one calls you again.
You know, once I got this call - I couldn't even make out where they were calling from - some travel agency saying I qualify for some package or something. Do you know the guy told me he knows my back account number, and when I said yeah right, he asked me to fetch my number, and guess what - he read it out to me.
I mean, private information is floating around in their hands, and I just can't understand how he could have gotten it. I wish I knew about this do not call list - I would have made a report ag/that company.
How would they be able to get private info like that?
pcg, welcome to the real, post-preliminary school life! Now that you are able to pay your bills on your own as well as with the help of you dad, and have a phone, know that people WILL call that phone. Learn to deal with it like the rest of us adults do or else..if you can't take the heat then get out of the...ummm...kitchen.

Now these dish network people won’t stop calling every other day and they act like they are they are my dad’s friends asking for Arshad bhai I have asked them to remove our name from the calling list as our number is on the “do not call” registry…lets see how effective that is.
If you disnetwork subscribers want to disturb them then I suggest getting a FTA system
I doubt that they are with Dish network because they sound like those companies that get paid for doing surveys. It's always a desi talking in Urdu. If they are really with dish network, they should know that I already have a dish network account. The first question is "i am calling from dish network, are you currently using dish network?"
hahah it’s so funny when my Dad answers the phone and it’s telemarketers.
Telemarketer: Hello, my name is Jonathan and I am calling from Mobile Pro International in California…
Dad: What?! NO! Your name is NOT Jonathan! Your name is NIKASH and you are calling from INDIA! I know this you can’t fool me you think you can just pass with a fake name like that? I can tell in a heartbeat you are a foreigner and your accent is so thick I can even tell what pindh you are from!
