Teeth Whitening

I figured I’d post this here since I’m curious about shorter term solutions for my wedding. I drink coffee…a lot. And my teeth are definitely stained. I want them as white as possible for the wedding (especially since I’m planning on red lips and no one wants yellow teeth with that, yuck!)
Any brides have advice/suggestions? …giving up coffee probably isn’t going to happen with the nature of my school schedule. Any tricks that you guys employed before your wedding?

Re: Teeth Whitening

I'm married but I'm going to reply anyway.

I did notice my teeth colour slightly changing and becoming yellow on the edges due to drinking too much tea without milk. Just last week, saw my dentist and discussed the teeth whitening process. It's very painful apparently (specially if you have fillings and damaged gums)...and your teeth become very sensitive for weeks (sometimes for months)...I have given up on the idea completely. Especially when I have naturally very white teeth so even if I go through the process it wouldn't make any noticeable difference.

I have started to take my tea with milk, I brush regularly now, and avoid coloured food (like curry with haldi) and artificial colouring...I'm also using miswaak twice a day. I can see my teeth colour slowly going back to normal.

Having said that, if you have strong pain threshold, then go for it.

Use whitening strips. I heard good reviews about crest whitening strips.
Alternatively, you can buy teeth whitening systems from amazon which comes with gel and moldable trays for upper and lower teeth

Re: Teeth Whitening

1) If you're drinking coffee several times a day, then do you best to brush you teeth 2-3x/day. Also, if you don't have time/place to brush, at least swish water in your mouth after you're done drinking coffee or any other dark colored liquid.

2) Crest whitestrips get good reviews but they can be annoying can cause sensitivity. Definitely use Sensodyne if you're going this route.

3) Over the summer my husband and white went to a whitening place at our local mall and they did a GREAT job! We paid $99/per person for 30 minute whitening sessions. They put a gel over our teeth and then some LED light. Loved it! We used Sensodyne for a week before AND after the treatment. Our teeth were a little sensitive for like 2-3 days but afterwards it was fine. (Note: I have some fillings in my teeth but no gum issues).

Note: If you're going to get the whitening done professionally, then I would recommend doing it like a week before the wedding. No point in getting it done and then drinking coffee for weeks/months until the wedding day.

Re: Teeth Whitening

Can I ask how long does the whitening last for? And how many sessions do you have to attend to get the satisfactory results? The one I was referring to is based on hydrogen peroxide formula...lasts upto a year.

Re: Teeth Whitening

My husband and I just did one session and were happy with the results. My teeth had slightly stained (I only drink 2 cups of chai/daily...no coffee at all). My husband is a big coffee drinker so his was slightly yellow. We were not looking for super white teeth....just the stains to get lighter. We could have done more sessions if we wanted them to be whiter....but what we got after one session was good enough for us.

The place I went to did not "guarantee" a certain time that the whitening would last for b/c as they explained it all depends on your lifestyle/habit. I'm very picky with oral hygiene (I've worn Invisalign braces which forced me to alter my habits). I don't drink coffee or other dark liquids throughout the day, brush my teeth at least 3x/day etc. (actually, in the morning I drink chai and then brush my teeth). If I'm drinking Coke or other dark colored liquids at a restaurant or event....I will drink water afterwards. My whitening results has stayed the same since I got it done. I can easily see my results lasting a year if not more (its already been almost 6 months). My husband on the other hand....LOL.....not so much b/c he drinks coffee throughout the day and isn't as picky as I am. So yea.....how long it lasts depends a lot of your drinking/brushing habits.

The place I went to used a hydrogen peroxide gel with some blue light.

Re: Teeth Whitening

Crest stripes made my teeth overly sensitive.

Re: Teeth Whitening

The sensitivity is something that is holding me back. I use sensodyne now (after switching to an electric toothbrush) because I was pushing wayyy too hard on my teeth and had a lot of sensitivity around the gum area as a result.

Has anyone tried those "smilesciences" teeth whitening trays? They're all over instagram and seem to be more affordable. My dentist said he'd make me trays for $125 with 6 tubes to whiten with. lol of course, that means nothing to me since I have no idea how costly these things are.

Yeah, definitely wanted to do it the week before wedding events...I'm getting married after step 1 and will def be drinking coffee during study days so my teeth are going to be insanely gross by the end of it.

Re: Teeth Whitening

Sensitivity is a potential side effect with any whitening/bleaching treatment. From my research, it's more of a risk one takes with the professional treatments because they are a lot stronger and in a shorter amount of time (e.g. just the one session). The worst first hand reports I've heard are from Laser teeth whitening.

I proceeded with the Crest Stripes very cautiously as explained in the threads I linked and didn't experience any sensitivity issues - same results, just took a while longer.

Re: Teeth Whitening

I'm in the UK so Crest strips weren't easily available here. I ordered some online and they did NOTHING for me. I have no idea why everyone is raving about them because I saw no difference whatsoever. I also found that bits of my gum were coming off! I stopped using them and my gums went back to normal 2 days later. I didn't experience any sensitivity though.

I've heard that making a paste from mushed strawberries/baking soda and brushing with it is supposed to be good for stains. Brush gently because you don't want to damage the enamel on your teeth.

Also, drink coffee through a straw if you can. I know it sounds strange but it's the best option if you drink coffee regularly.

Re: Teeth Whitening

I live in the UK too... no problems buying them online from a UK website. Also, there are a number of different types... I've always purchased the same ones and they have worked for me, my sister and my friends who have used them.

Re: Teeth Whitening

iMakeUpLover, where did you get your strips from?

Like Stoppit I also use the strips and definitely recommend them.. I got mine from Amazon.. Can get on eBay as well but need to maks sure they're the real thing..

Right after the first application I saw a noticeable difference..

Re: Teeth Whitening

Before & After: Teeth Whitening with Baking Soda | Modamob

Brushing with baking soda can make a difference but I think some dentists say that it wears done your enamel?

But I definitely suggest going through the dentist and choosing an affordable option, and I second drinking through a straw! It does sound funny, but it will help in the weeks leading up to your wedding.

Re: Teeth Whitening

Go to your dentist for a through scale and polish. Most likely the coffee is an extrinsic stain i.e, on the surface of your teeth rather than inside so the ultrasonic scaler should get it off. Then while you are there you can discuss whitening with the dentist and if you really need it.

Re: Teeth Whitening

I ordered mine from eBay. It was like £30 for a pack of 12 or something. However, they were delivered from Hong Kong. Even the writing on them was in Chinese :S Do you think I got fake ones? Lol. I might order more from Amazon. Someone send me a genuine link please?

Re: Teeth Whitening

^I'll pm you a link.. Got it saved somewhere..

Re: Teeth Whitening

Just using Colgate optic white has helped me. I use both the toothpaste and mouthwash as I tend to drink black coffee and I believe there is a whitening gel as well that you can apply after brushing and mouthwash. I wasn't a fan of the Crest whitening strips, to much hassle.

Re: Teeth Whitening

Thank you!

I heard from someone, and I quote
" darya ki bareek matti whitens teeth better than any other product"
Please test and report if it works.
