I spent in total 12 odd years of studying in Pakistan, a few of them not in a row however. And I do not recall the Holocaust being mentioned. As I said, maybe I don’t remember it and neither do a couple of posters in the thread. What I do remember is memorising Quaid’s 14 points before metric, the Indo Pak histories, wars etc.

I think its fair to say that the syllabus varies in Pakistan from school to school. Now depending upon whether you went to beaconhouse, froebels, st. mary’s, public school, nui roshni school, or your run of the mill mom-n-pop school, your History/Geogrphy books and material are prolly not the same.

Way way more than two decades ago what they taught us was crap. First time I knew who Jewish people were was my classmate Harold Solomon in 11th standard. He taught me matter of factly.

I’ve done some random polling on this subject and I’ve not come across anyone that admits to learning one iota about the holocaust and what Hitler did to the Jews. Ethan Hunt is a rare bird.

Here is my simple question.

Why? What Hitler did in the 1930s and 1940s has no bearing on Pakistan or its future. Just like the Rwanda Genocide, Khmer Rouge, Apartheid, etc are not taught in Pakistan.

I hardly think any of you know or care about the genocide occurring against Muslims in CAR by Christians.

Even there is a denial to what happened to Jews. In some cases complete denial and in other cases difference in number of victims as per literature available in Pakistan. Recently, Hashim Nadeem’s Novel ‘Khuda aur Muhabbat’ became quite popular in Urdu readers and it was partially dramatised as well. One part of the novel is about research by a student to deny holocaust (this part was not dramtised for obvious reasons).

If you go through religious literature, you will find denial at its best. But there are certain exceptions as well. I’ve just listened to tafseer of Sura e Bani Israel by Dr Israr and he covers the Jewish history in comprehensive way. He at different places of his tasfeer also accept the atrocities and sufferings of Jews by Hitler. He also refers to a Hadees Nabavi (SAW), that what happened to Bani Israel (Jews) will happen to Muslims as well, and the result is before us.

Agree there are remote bearing on Pakistan, but then why there is so active denial and fabrication of stories about the incident. Is it same ’ Hub e Ali se Bughz e Muwaiya’ issue that is being followed in Pakistan when it comes to Jews and Hitler?

Yea nothing was taught about Holocaust. Infact I came to know about it when I was 22!!!

There is no mention of the word Holocaust in any of the books taught in Government public schools.. be it English or Urdu medium.

I didn’t suggest that it has direct or immediate bearing on Pakistan or it’s future.
I merely found it surprising that some folks were not even aware that such atrocities took place against the Jews.

I won’t get into the debate right now as I’m pressed for time but in the grander scheme of things, there is an impact on the nation if the citizens are not raised as “informed” individuals. Not only do I think that they should be taught about the Holocaust, I think they should also be taught about many of the other ‘events’ that shaped the world as it is today.

yes it varies from school to school, some teach amerrican or turkish hsitory like the Pakturk School has different subjects from public schools and so on.
