I agree with Decent, Tauqir Zia has done a lot of good like restructuring domestic cricket, concept of Cricket Academy.....
[/QUOTE]

On a more serious note. Yes, it seems tauqir did take some positive steps. Atleast the chairmanship remained stable during his tenure. the players have requested Pres. Musharraf to reject tauqir's resignation, and have taken an appointment to meet the Pres. personally. let's see what happens.

Tauqir Zia did a good job with PCB during his reign, like Saby mentioned, he did well with the new academy and his investment of building more grounds and sports facilities around the country.
And his appointment of Amir Sohail was the best thing he did during his reign.
After watching the recent results, you have to agree that Amir Sohail has done a decent job picking players from domestic cricket to represent the national team.
Specially bringing back Salem Elahi was the best move he made, ofcourse he made some blunders with Zia and the wicket keeper issue, but if you look @ his overall performance, he has done much better then people before him.

^^ Umair yes Aamir Sohail has done a good job and there is no doubt about it. BUT its his arrogant and all-credit-is-mine attitude that irritates many ppl...

khair we are talking about zia, i think his one of his most sane moves was to work with Ramiz Raja and Chishti Mujahid. Unfortunately Chishti Mujahid had to quit because of heart problems. And Ramiz while working an honorary basis, is winning my respect with each passing day and i m sure i aint the only one sharing this sentiment.

Tauqir Zia resigns as PCB chairman](http://www-pak.cricket.org/db/ARCHIVE/CRICKET_NEWS/2003/DEC/016439_PAK_01DEC2003.html)

Lt-Gen. Tauqir Zia, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, has announced his resignation. Addressing the media in a packed PCB conference room, Zia, who was accompanied by Rameez Raja, the chief executive, said: "I had sent in my resignation to the President [Pervez Musharraf] on November 23 and it was accepted yesterday. I will be completing my four-year tenure on December 14 and that will be my last day.

"My decision was well thought out and not emotional. In my tenure, I feel we have developed Pakistan cricket and rebuilt after the recent World Cup.

“I consulted with my family and have their full support. **In fact on a recent car trip I was alone with my son Junaid and he said, ‘Dad, you should have gone yesterday rather than today.’ I feel badly about my presence affecting his career, I feel his career suffered pressure while I was chairman. Now it’s up to him to flourish or move onwards to studies or other pursuits.” Junaid has made rapid strides from junior levels to the senior team, but his ascent has been tinged with controversy, with the media accusing the selectors of nepotism. **

Tauqir Zia’s resignation comes in the wake of the television-rights controversy which required the president’s intervention. After the first one-day match of New Zealand’s current tour of Pakistan was blacked out worldwide, a meeting led to an agreement for a joint broadcast of the remaining matches, with Pakistan Television screening the games for viewers in Pakistan, and GEO TV beaming the signal abroad.

Addressing the media, Zia spent a long time outlining the various measures in place for developing cricket in Pakistan, from the successful National Cricket Academy project to developing grounds and coaches all over the country. He thanked his management team, particularly Rameez Raja, who he said had not even asked for a salary in four years. Commenting on media complaints about possible conflicts of interest in being the chief executive and a television commentator, Zia stated categorically that Rameez took on both roles with his approval.

Reacting to criticism of Aamer Sohail, the chief selector, Zia said that while Sohail’s tendency not to mince words might have rubbed some people up the wrong way, he had nevertheless done a fine job: “Aamer has been one of the best chief selectors.”

He went to emphasise: “Selection was strictly on merit and we have given chances for players to perform without any hidden angles or agendas.” Zia also thanked President Musharraf, saying: “I have always enjoyed his unprecedented support and encouragement throughout my tenure.”

When asked to name his possible successor, Zia stated that he had recommended Rameez’s name to Musharraf, who will take the final decision. However, several other names have been touted, including Arif Ali Abbasi, who has been a board member in the past, and Khalid Mahmood, a former chairman of the PCB.

After today’s one-day victory over New Zealand, the Pakistan team management appealed to Zia to stay on. Javed Miandad, Pakistan’s coach, said: “All the players are unananimous in feeling that a change at this time will not be good for Pakistan cricket especially with the resoration of Pakistan-India cricket. Stability is key, and as everyone can see our new team is improving day by day.”

And Inzamam-ul-Haq, the captain, added: “We went to see the chairman [Tauqir Zia] and asked him to reconsider, and would like to appeal to President Musharraf to ask the chairman to carry on.”

=============================================

Bechara Junaid seems a reasonable kid and honest performer, he was much maligned for his selection and thats why he withdrew from the squad (yes, he sholdnt have been there as yet) but still he felt the pressure. I hope that his father not being at the helm he can perform and learn more experience before making it to the team.

Well lets hope Junaid can make it into the team in future, so he can prove the media that he was selected on merit rather then his father.
It was an unfortunate move Mr Zia had to make in the interest of his son's career as a cricketer.

Ramiz Raja should be the next PCB Boss.. He is not only educated and experienced cricketers, but has also experience being on the top PCB man, he was the assistant to Zia. During his playing career, he never had any scandals and other issues, ie Match Fixing or Fighting or Khaleefa Geeri... He gets along with everyone,

A general never gets tired of politics, at least not a pakistani general.

Re: Tauqir Zia Quits!!!

hmmm not sure if that's a good news ...

gori maim aur playboy phattan
Imran Kha…Imran Khan

j/k

Nobody else deserve this position than Great Khan, he is the natural choice here.

Not really. He has several thing to do in life. I don’t think he should take up this job unless he wants to give up everything else. He could be used as a consultant though :k:.

Tauqir should have stayed and Amir should have left...

He seems like a good enough guy. I feel bad for his son, I don't think he was is as bad a player as people make him out to be. His record shows he is a decent bowler (perhaps not world class). When another no-name bowler like Yassir Ali was selected, I did'nt here all the crying.
I don't know about Imran Khan taking Zia's place, not with Miandad still the coach (and doing a great job). Ramiz Raja is the obvious choice and he is a really intelligent guy so it is perfect.

exactly. the only thing i can fault him for is about his son. other than that, pak cricket did some very nice things under his command. the cricket academy comes to mind. I really hope imran khan would become the next president of PCB. he might be the only on who can stand up to sohail and shut him up.

Thats your opinion but I don't change mine everyday. Aamir is just gambling with different players. Sometimes it works, and he gets praised, other times it doesnt and he gets criticised. There is no method to his madness. He's just pocking in the dark. Just because Saleem played well in one innings against a depleted side in his own country doesnt make him a wise choice. Aamir justifies Elahi's inclusion by saying that he's scored well in sporting conditions and will be useful in NZ. Well look at his record in NZ. Its Poor. Same against SA. Same against Aus.

oh man, isn’t life unfair! :rotfl:

:hehe:

i saw on the news that the team will be gathering and meeting musharraf…

uss ka kia hoa?

Ramiz is the perfect fit. If Ramiz is made the PCB chief then all I can say we are in good hands. He is one of the few personality who maintains good terms with all the players. He has a clean record and I don't see why he shouldnt be given a chance.
