TATA in Columbia! why not Pakistan & BD?

Rio example was a contrasting one to begin with and no one can COPY other cities for obvious reasons (social, cultural, and historic).

Being tourist friendly means just that i.e. accommodating the needs and wishes of your guests under the given circumstances.

Besides Rio, there are several hundred examples. Take the case of Dubai. They serve Islamically halal food AND haram food. They allowed a casino, and when Mullahs balked, they told them to $hut up and pointed to the huge mosque build on the other side of town.

And an average dubai Arab is hardly known to be "party animal:, and still the humble and accommodating approach makes Dubai a very good destination for the people around the world.

For Pakistanis Dubai is a destination to find work, but for Westerners it is a fun place to be.

The bottom line is that Karachi CAN find its niche in the tourist market, and it doesn't have to be a ditto copy of Rio, Dubai, or Mumbai.

The basic requirements are not "partying", but unique ways to be "tourist friendly".

^ agree

Fair enough... My point was that the problem ultimately stems from the fact that those in the position of marketing Pakistan in a positve manner have utterly failed in doing so, up to now...
(Although, you cant blame them completely either as much of the bad press is due to it being a Muslim country, and Muslims tend to have bad PR in the West by default.)
Extremism is not the catalyst for the lack of investment, its bad PR and bad marketing.

Thank you.

I'd say that

"Bad lands tend to have bad PR".

If Muslims behave like the ones from dubai, parts of malaysia, parts of Turkey then they have a good PR.

If on the other hand Muslims behave like the ones form Congo, Liberia, North Korea, Zimbabwe, then the PR cannot be good.

If our character is good and sophisticated, then everyone will respect us.

otherwise we'll be considered uncouth and uncivilized and hence the bad PR.

Agree 100%

Known quite a few of them and they are absoluety useless.

If you respect yourself, you really don't need the respect of others. And that is a hallmark of "good character". Unfortunately, Muslims like to behave when abroad, and as soon as they're home, any established rule becomes for low-class "others".

My point was that Muslims in Pakistan dont generally behave badly. They are simply lumped together with the bad Muslims. Dubai is a marketing miracle, not necessarily a product of Muslims behaving themselves.

Pakistani "Muslims" law enforcement and civil groups have utterly failed to control our extremists.

And thus we are all lumped together.

If we had huge peace rallies with every attack on a foreign diplomatic mission,
or mountains of flowers for any foreigner / Pakistani killed by terrorists,
then the rest of the world would have differentiated between the bad ones and the good ones.

So far the "good Pakistanis" are silent,

And

Silence is mostly interpreted as "support" it is not correct but this the way the world goes.

And quit that Muslim vs. non-Muslim labeling.

In Pakistan we are in the same boat as our non-Muslim brothers.

The more we emphasize on our Muslimness, the more we get lumped with the tribals and despots of the Middle East. Remember the man is known by the company he keeps.

If we don't want to get tagged as a bank robber, then we should not walk in the streets with the known bank robbers.

If we want to get tagged as a peaceful, lawful person/nation, then find all the peaceful and lawful groups/nations and walk with them instead.

Then soon the world will recognize us as a good citizen/nation.

p.s.

For some reason we forget that our parents always taught us the do's and don'ts about our friends' type. They always said make the friends who are most sophisticated, educated, and forward looking. Why would they do that? because they were worried about family name getting spoiled if you picked up the wrong kind of friends.

Why then we refuse that Pakistan as a nation should have friends based on the same criteria that our parents taught us.

can't believe...this kinds of pakistanis do exist......???

any way, well said bro..

Thank you for your kind comments.

You must travel to Pakistan to see the silent majority of Pakistanis. You will find love, respect, and lots of great food (vegetarian if you so desire).

Many posters here live in the US/UK so they can afford to be extremists and not worry about making a living. So do not take them as a true sample of Pakistanis.
