Men's preference for fair skinned women is a desi cultural thing.
Skin color doesnt adversely affect attractiveness as long as its not in extremes (too dark or too pale).
Womens preference for tall men is universal and may have a lot to do with genetic programming.

Women who are discriminated against in the game of attraction get more sympathy and support from society. So we have..
Women wanting tall, well built guys = having standards
Men wanting fair skinned, slim, pretty girls = men being shallow.
Just one of the countless double standards that are held against you as a man.

I don't really think all men or most for that matter dwell on a girl's skin being fair enough.
I think it's more how attractive her features are. Some girls who have a dusky skin colour are gorgeous and have very beautiful features which makes their skin colour irrelevant.
I've never been attracted to tall guys - and my husband's height is average. Yes there are people still to this day who want a SIL who is tall and a DIL who is fair and I think the main reason for that is because they want their future kids to be attractive, etc. But for the people who are actually the ones getting married, and especially nowadays, I don't think people really care. Theres more important qualities to look at like personality and overall compatibility between the two people.
