My dad told showed me this video-- it was horrible
wasnt it that- she went out shopping with her father in law and was just wearing regular clothes- but it wasnt revealing- it was loose clothes and the reason they lashed her was cuz she was with a man- (her father in law) im not 100% sure BUT-- that is insane!! THIS IS NOT what Islam teaches us- why have people become such extremists!!
funny how this wakes up the whole world, and our sisters getting raped, murdered, insulted, abused , tortured .. and our brothers getting bombed and shot and burned causes us to switch channels on tv.
Yes this incident should be investigated and debated but in addition to this we have bigger vices and problems which need our vocal support.
The Islamic penalties for moral crimes are harsh, but it does not make them wrong. If we look at the punishment and do not sympathise with the people even if they did the crime then we have no compassion.
Just because Islam has a penal system it does not mean we 'love' it when the sentences are being undertaken. This is an alien attitude to Islam. There are things in Islam that we must do, even when we dislike them and dishing out penalties should be on the top of the list otherwise we are at risk of being bloodthirsty.
RasoolAllah (SAW) was The Mercy to Mankind and we aught to let this muqaam penetrate our souls and remove ourselves from hatred and pleasure in seeing others in pain ... even if they are guilty.
The problem I have with this issue is:
1) Why is the sentence made into a video? - videos with a distanced audience and what would otherwise be a severe warning would be entertainment for the twisted people watching.
2) Why are men groping this girl and who gave them this right to undertake the punishment?
3) I thought lashes were supposed to be on the back ... why the buttocks
4) Only a Qadi can exercise sentence, who analysed the case in a shari'ah lawsuit?
Why is this important like those of our Muslim bretheren attacked by our enemies is because if we can do this to our own people then what stops the others doing the same. Have self-respect and people will respect you. The enemy from within is the hardest to defeat. You can take this both in sense of the nufs and in the sense of our own people. If we gain compassion for others our bretheren and then all people and then to all animals and then to all life and then compassion even for the floor we walk on by walking on it softly then we know we are treading the path that the pious predecessors were treading.
A word of warning ... by watching infliction of pain on others once may be scary a valid warning ... but to do so over and over again will harden the heart and who wants that to happen?
My advice is to stay clear of this entirely even to the extent of the recent hollywood films they call horror once upon a time used to be scary, edgy and shocking now have a huge industry on 'gore' ... these films are proper head-mess and to watch them in the name of entertainment one is more surely selling their hearts on a platter to Shaitan.
Its funny how people have their own versions of why the girl was being punished. How credible are the sources? Who said it was the Taliban? Who ruled out the tribal mentalities of ALL pakistanis, not just those in the NWFP.
Girls are gang raped in KARACHI, lets not even talk about Iraq and Afghanistan under other armies. And people have theories with limited knowledge on what the video depicts.
If you're watching a video, and doing nothing about it, what does that tell you about yourself?
Thats the question we really should be asking ourselves. Promoting such videos, and condeming and lanating other people is easier than rectifying the problem.
crescent buddy.. so what exactly are you trying to say? Doesnt matter for what reason she was being punished. There is something called humanity. According to the news, she was being punished because she was seen traveling with some non-mehram. Were the people who were lashing the girl not non-mehram to her, who were holding her hands and feet so that she dont move. Who gave them the right to lash her?
What exactly are they trying to show by lashing the 17 year old girl publically?.. telling the world that this is what 'islam' really is?.. Shameless people to say the least!

I dont think they were making any statement. The video was made at random, they didn't plan to show this to the world that this is what they're doing.
If every domestic violence case in the world was filmed and shown on the net it would degrade every religion, every race, every type of human.
The funny part to me aside from this sad video is the labelling, the name calling, and ignorant comments people are passing without having ANY knowledge of the context of this video.
It's a sad incident that occured. We should make the same hue and cry about drone attacks which kill innocent women, children, and elderly (more than often). If that got as much coverage as this did, the drone attacks might actually stop. The Human Rights organizations are usually mum when it comes to large scale murder of unarmed civilians at the hands of tech toys of foreigners from high above. Don't those lives matter? Isn't that an issue worth causing a stir for anyone who cares for Human "Rights"....?
Just some food for thought.
Again, it's a sad incident that has occurred, and should be thoroughly investigated.
PS: I fully agree with Crescent, we shouldn't hasten to judge w/out knowing the details.
Some questions to ask:
Where was this video before? And when was it made?
Who made it?
Who released it, and why now? Why not earlier?
Who are the girls relatives, and their whereabouts?
Who is the girl's husband, why is he quiet and hasn't come to defend her?
Where is the father-in-law who was supposedly punished as well behind closed doors?
And other details, which i'm sure will need to be answered since Supreme Court has decided to look into this matter. More of this will come to light.
Also, father-in-law is considered a mehram as far as my little knowledge goes. So how can they punish her? She belongs to an area where unfortunately women have little say especially when outside, so it leaves room for doubt as to why she was outside, maybe it was her father-in-law who wanted to take her somewhere? shopping, to meet relatives, etc..
Also, if she's punishable because she was out with a na-mehram, what gives them the right to hold her down. They're totally na-mehram to her, cannot hold her. ???
Also, there are guidelines that need to be followed, were they all followed?
So many questions....
See we don't know all this...it's very hard to say anything. Atleast for me. I can say this with certainty that it is absolutely wrong.
Hey guys can I post a video of the polish engineer being beheaded by pakistani taliban and can we debate if that is also part of islam or not?
i never claim that taliban are upholders of pristine islamic virtues
and bear in mind they have their origins in the bandit forces called "mujahideen" which pak army themselves created
but if they do make some efforts to establish islamic laws then they shud be appreciated ( as in the case of flogging) or condemned ( as in the kidnapping and killing of engineers ...as appropriate
whether its a matter of being a sissy or being more civilized is a judgement call DR. One can make that argument for virtually anything, say biting live chickens heads off instead of using knives.
true but biting chicken's heads is not shariah

and please dont shine **** and call it gold, you're better than that. If she was being 'beaten lightly' by a 'soft whip' the outrage wouldnt be what it is
[/quote]
i have personally experinced flogging by pak army in zia's time and the blows were a lot harder and on bareback too >>.so it is a lighter punishment
infact if her guilt is proven its the taliban who are being sissies by not implementing the punishment
.

They have origins in all that is wrong about jihadi muslim movements born out of hate and ignorance. They cannot enforce anything by acts of violence. This automatically invalidates what they are doing. They are part of the bigger problem, not the solution.
Under islamic law they would be put to the death for being murderers and looters.

well that is quite an experience, but one may say thats distorted your expectations of what average people should have to put up with. Its like the guy who's fingernails were ripped off in torture coming and saying getting flogged isnt all that bad. Its really just a distortion of the scale.
Waaliakum assalam Allahkabanda. Jazakallah for those links, they were very informative and many questions arouse in my mind related to this issue.
But let us not disscuss anything about zina or any other crime right now since truth didn't reach us. I agree with few posters above that it is better to distant ourself from this issue instead of blaming someone without knowing complete truth.
Its completely irrelevant. There is only one end to talking about this in this discussion, and that is either to dilute focus, or to say everythings screwed up, they’ve all got blood on their hands, its a wash.
Also it isnt at all clear whether or not the girl was married. According to the latest eye-witness report, the girl is unmarried, and was flogged for a completely different reason.
