After many failed agreements with the local Talibans, the government it seems is powerless against the tide of militancy. From Swat all the way to South Waziristan, the army has been powerless to enforce the writ.
The Lal Masjid debacle is bound to play its role in further fuelling resentment as majority of the disciples there hailed from the Tribal Regions. Is the army going to be further isolated and eventually bogged down in these areas? Is the situation becoming more and more like Iraq in NWFP where the forces will be engaged in a long all out guerilla war and potentially could lead to the eventual break-up of the country; it’s possible if you look at all the factors closely, and the path which the armed forces have decided to take..
KHAAR (Bajaur Agency), July 13: Local traders closed their shops on Friday in response to a call from the local Taliban. All shops, banks and other business centres remained closed. A banker told Dawn that all bank branches had been instructed to observe Friday as weekly holiday.
Meanwhile, the local Taliban held six people on the charge of taking drugs and paraded them naked in a bazaar in Inayat Killey. About 40 armed Taliban addressed people on the occasion.
They asked the people to be prepared for jihad.
They sought local people?s help in curbing crimes and anti-Islamic activities in the area.
They also warned against listening to music, drinking liquor and using drugs and said violators would be given punishment in line with Islamic injunctions.
CDs and cassettes allegedly seized from the area were destroyed on the occasion.
Why are the noble Taliban enforcing the Sharia Law?
I mean aren't people there muslim enough to graciously accept the Sharia Law?
I completely agree with your notion, and am staunchly against such forced actions. Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) only worked on the hearts of the Believers by building Iman and Yaqeen for the Makkah period of his Prophethood. The commands to actually shun contravene practices, and follow the commandments of Allah (SWT) came AFTER once the Iman had been entrenched in the hearts of the Followers. If you look at the state of the majority of Muslims, 90% of them don't even offer 5 times Salah, let alone practice the complete deen. Prayers are being held inside the mosques, whilst people are sitting outside on the doorsteps, and yet, still don't get the 'taufeeq' (ability) to go inside. Such is the debilitated state of Iman amongst the Muslims we are talking about. This should be worked upon first and forth-most; by working to change the hearts, and building the level of subjugation to Allah (SWT) that such qualities will come automatically in the lives of the practicing Muslims - just my two cents...
I am only referring to the political fallout of apparently un-controllable militancy; as mentioned in my comments.
Its just their stupidity that they are going to enforce 7th Century traditions on the 21st Century....
What kind of technological and scientific progress would the world make if these idiots were running the world?
The political reasons and ramifications behind the Army's wrong actions have been discussed to death in many threads. You may choose to disagree, but I am not here to convince anyone. I will repeat this much that Muslims need to change hearts and turn towards Allah, and practice PATIENCE and constancy. There are no solutions through force and violence, and after this Islamabad debacle, I am concerned that the situation has only gotten worse..

Fine. We Disagree.

So what exactly do you recommend?

I won't delve into political solutions or tit-for-tat battles, which the current situation has yielded towards. It's likely to go on for a while if we look at it realistically. But, this is not where the solution to the problems - relentless killings of each others, onslaught and complete political disarray - faced by the Muslim world lies today . The solution of the problems can only be initiated on individual levels by the individual Muslims. We need to ask ourselves, that as Muslims what's required of us from Allah (SWT), and what do we need to do to establish the fundamentals amongst ourselves following on the footsteps of our dear Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). Such was his concern for the saviour of all beings that even Hinda - the one that chewed the liver of Prophet's (PBUH) uncle - became Muslim. Only one sentence of him was enough to bring Khaled Bin Waleed, whom's strategy caused the great loss to the Muslims during the battle of Uhad, came into the folds of Islam. This was not done via means of vengeance or getting even. This was only done through 'Ikhlaq-e-Hasna' (ideal conduct).
We have left what we should have held on to them most - Quran and the sunnah of our dear Prophet (PBUH). This is the root cause of the battered state of Muslims where ever you look..

Exactly, so called Muslims such as the Taliban have defaced the relgion to the point where its become something reviled around the world.. The sooner these people are killed or put in their place, Islam will have been victorious!

.
are you hoping that the govt will enforce its writ? :)
so teh way to deal with militancy is to just tackle it head on...
I am all for it.
