So since the beginning of the summer I’ve been considering taking a semester off from school and the hectic life here and just chill for a while in Pakistan. At first I thought it was just on a whim, but as the months have progressed, I’ve realized that if I ever needed to take time off then this semester was it. I definitely want to finish college, but right now the urge is more to make my mother happy by doing so.
Maybe it’s unrealistic and naive to think this way, but I think that with all the grief n trouble i’ve given my mother over the years, at least me being a college graduate would somewhat make up for it. I hate to admit it but I don’t feel I’m doing the whole college thing for myself --I enjoy the freedom and some ppl i’ve met, but Im doing this more to make my parents happy, to do at least one thing right for them.
But I’m so totally burnt out right now. I really really really want to take some time off but I won’t be able to until September 05. I guess I"m just scared of what will happen next. I want to hurry up with my degree and just get this crap over with. And I’m scared that once I do take the time off, I won’t go back to college, and I’ll have done another thing to disappoint my parents
*Sometimes it's not so much about parents
as it is about one's own self. If you think you're going to
have a nervous break down, or will be totally exerted from the overwhelmedness of it all, perhaps if your parents
knew they *would want you
to take time off and take a breather. I doubt majority of parents
out there would want their child to kill themselves over trying to
make the parents happy.
Also at times it's good to take a step backwards and evaluate.
Think about where you want to be a few years from now.
What do you see yourself doing or being. Would being
that person make you happy. Such sort of things. Plan
and then plunge. Unfortunately sometimes life isn't a
dress rehearsal.**
You're going to go through many times like this later in life, only running away to take a break won't be a valid option at those times. Better get used to it now, so bunker down and try to weather the storm rather than running away from your problems.
My advice would be to finish your degree first before deciding to take time off. Time off is usually done between undergrad and postgrad, and taking time off while you're still an undergrad is dangerous, because the chances of your coming back are slim, and you will definitely be wasting time by taking time off.
Find some other hobbies that you enjoy, university shouldn't be the be all and end all of your life.
i think you should finish your degree first, if you think it will be hard to come back to studies after a time off.
for the mean time just take few days off if you can or go out on weekend to refreash your self i m sure it will help... :)

Why do you always write your replies as if they are poems? I end up looking for rhyming words.
yeah i think u shud finish it..ya know get it over with..and get it out of ur way. but hey..dont do it for ur mom..do it for urself knowing that u wont have to worry bout it later. trust me..itll be a burden off ur shoulders..and then u can realllly go to pakistan and relax.
When I was in high school, I thought life could not possibly get any more hectic. And yes, I changed my mind once I started Uni.What Iv learned over the years is that you must NEVER let your life fall out of order for too long. When it comes to studies -do not take time off- because it only leaves you in the middle of nowhere. You miss out too much , and from what Iv seen as a student you just end up in a worse situation.Organize your time and make sure you follow it properly.Im almost done now, and even though I think I'll be free once Im done with my degrees, I do realize thats not the case.My career awaits.:o
Finish your school first, then go to Pakistan.Or go in summer.
how bout u make up a rhyme of ur own..
oh wait...u suck at it..nvm :p

There was once a guppie named Sarah,
Whenever there was bad news - she was the bearer,
She once went over the top,
She didn't know when to stop,
And her freinds became rarer and rarer.
Well apparently from the ideas i’ve gotten from here and elsewhere, no guy from there is gonna wanna marry me coz i was born n raised in US…but as for the rishta thing…ermmmmm…

also keep in mind that you may be experiencing senioritis. You take a year off, come back - and you will experience the same anguish.

this is only my second year....i have 3 more to go :(
I can soooooooooo relate. I wanted to take time off so badly for a semester and just go to Pakistan simply because i know i wouldn't get the opportunity to do so later on, especially since i wanted to venture into a demanding field. I however couldn't take time off due to various reasons.
But if you feel that taking a semester will help you, especially since you feel burnt out, then go for it. Only do so if you are determined enough to come back and continue studying, otherwise don't do it.
Sara: I would really advice you to take time off after you finish college..it is really hard to go back to college. I went to Pakistan for five weeks over the summer and it took me 2 months to get back into the school mode. I feel in ways my grades have been suffering. And you should go to school for yourself because in today's world it is very important to have one. I know lots of people who have not completed their education and they are 30 and going back to school. (Sorry to mean to be giving you a lecture)..What year are you?
