bibi ka maqbra is a maqbara built by the Mughal Prince Azam Shah, in the late 17th century as a loving tribute to his mother, Rabia Durrani (the first wife of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb). The comparison to the Taj Mahal has resulted in a general ignorance of the monument. This monument is also called the Dakkhani Taj (Taj of the Deccan).
The monument’s name translates literally to ‘Tomb of the Lady’, but has earned the nickname ‘poor man’s Taj’ because it was originally planned to rival the Taj Mahal (but was prevented from doing so due to budgetary constraints—Aurangzeb gave Azam Shah Rs. 7,00,000 only for the construction, where Taj Mahal cost 32 million Rupees approximately).
It is situated in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The tomb in itself represents the transition from the ostentatious architecture of Akbar and Shah Jahan to the simple architecture of the later Mughals.
there was also a 'Black Taj Mahal to be built across the river Yamuna from the Taj but it’s constructuion was also halted after the arrest of Shahjahan for the same reason as Bro Muqwee said. the foundation is still there.
it would have looked like this if it was allowed to be constructed:
i have heard shah jehan wanted this for himself but it didnt happened.
right...he wanted it to be his own maqbara. i wonder why he didn't want to be buried next to his wife whom he loved immensely. they are together NOW in the basement of the Taj Mahal...there is a replica of their graves which people visit and most don't even know that those are fake graves.
no no…as Muqwee bro said, his son Aurangzeb wanted to stop his extravagance and as a result he ShahjahaN was imprisoned in the red fort across the river Yamuna from where he used to see the Taj Mahal…he died in confinement.
in those times, this kinda family feud was a common occurrence. Aurangzeb was the third child of ShahjahaN…the throne would have gone to the eldest son, Dara Shikoh, who was considered a plunderer of national wealth and also a vagabond. since Aurangzeb was a religious person, to stop his father’s extravagance and his older brother from ruining the empire if he became the next king, he made a move and dethroned his father and brother.
you know how pious Aurangzeb was that he earned his living by writing Qur’aan and stitching topis…he did NOT use national wealth to support his livelihood.
ok ok
but i have also heard tht Aurangzeb and his brother Dara Shikoh were kept as hostages under Nur Jahan at there grandfather Jahangirr's Lahore court.
what was the reason?

It might happened because of Shahjahan's rebel against Jehangir. In Jehangir's time defacto ruler was NurJehan. She didn't want Shahjahan to be the ruler. She was interested in making Jehangir's other son Prince Shehryar king of Hindustan and therefore married her daughter Ladli Begum from her first marriage to Shehryar.
