how many academic institutions from that era are still operating? and what is their ROI
but you did not answer my question.
and point is that overall it has had a positive impact.
it serves as a symbol of india, a symbol of south asia and an icon..
I mean aside from tourism dollars the goodwill and other impact can not be measured.
I recall something about a similar Taj Mahal was planned
to be built for Shah-jehaan himself, but in total BLACK
marble as contrast. However, correct me if Im wrong,
due to the coupe dete by Aurangzeeb, it was not carried out.
Its one of the wonders of the WORLD.
Do we judge ancient Egypt for their pyramids?
Heck, I got a mini Taj Mahal in marble and love
the way friends comment..... +tively
Inshallah, Im going going for a long vacation
to India around Nov. Am dying to see Taj Mahal etc.
Wrong !! The more you love your wife, the more time you spend with her and the more kids you have
See this way He was an emperor, If he did not love her that much he would not be interested in his wife after say 3,4 kids ( most of todays women start looking budhi aftar bearing few kids) + Shah Jahan must have many young concubines available to him, which did not detract him from his wife
So the conclusion is that
He was a loyal husband, Like most of the desi men
Shah Jahan really loved Malika Mumtaz mahal, the force of attraction was beyond any materialistic desire.
Mumtaz Mahal maintained herself well, to keep the fire aflame, and keep her husband interested in herself. ( Point should be noted ! )
any one of the poster & replier of this thread have actually seen this beaaauuuty
i m not talking about photographs & video.

*I really appreciate the Great Wall...that thing was built for a reason, and although not the brightest idea, it was built for the common good. *
We honestly can't say that about the Taj. I mean, if the Taj was a heap of rocks, would we honestly praise it as a monument of love? No...we only like it because it's a giant monument...but that doesn't mean it wasn't a monumental waste. So we don't really adore the thing because of the love story behind it, or the Shah's grief.
It was built for one person out of the public treasury....that is sad...now if dude built it himself I'd be most impressed.
agred 100%
the sad part is that the concept of public treasury was no more amongst the muslim rulers
