Re: Tablet Suggestions

No you are not the first guppy. We have Ipad2 and we are loving every minute of it. EVery now and then, our family goes through a fight on who would use it.

I know that you want Android tablet so cant say much but Ipad2 is awesome. Yes I know that you cant play Flash but I have not miss it at all and we have that from last 2 months now.

Re: Tablet Suggestions

you can man, you can .. its only 499 for 16gb .. that is a very competitive price if you compare with any decent android tablet.

But i understand, Android has its own strengths so if you like that, you should go for that.

Re: Tablet Suggestions

I'm in the market for a tablet this summer as well... I was eagerly awaiting the launch of RIM playbook - but haven't been able to convince myself that this is the device I want... I'm now waiting for the HP Touchpad to compare the two. One thing I know for sure is that the IPad isn't going to cut it for me since I'm looking for a productivity tablet and not a utility one.

Re: Tablet Suggestions

The new Asus Transformer tablet is coming out next week. My eyes are on that one. Its one of the first Android Honeycomb tabs (Moto Xoom is a bust) out there. The best part is that for an additional $150 you can get a keyboard-dock which also has additional battery boosting the "play" time to 15+ hours.

16 GB, wifi only price is $399. Should be available at BestBuy, B&H, Microcenter etc by this weekend or early next one

PS: I've owned a Samsung Windows XP based tablet since 2005-06. Still going strong.

Re: Tablet Suggestions

Here’s an excellent review on the Transformer on Engadget:

LC, wanna see if I can find a 2 for 1 deal? lol

Re: Tablet Suggestions

Same here, Ipad first gen.

Re: Tablet Suggestions

This looks very kewl… in fact, very close to what I need. I should check it out. Thanks for the heads up.

I’m not even kidding but if there’s any volume discounts, I am in…

Re: Tablet Suggestions

thank you guys.

i’ll chk the reviews

Re: Tablet Suggestions

How is android based tablet any more productive than IOS based?

I guess for one being real productive, there should be a windows mobile based tablet. I see that as a good replacement of a real work based laptop.

Re: Tablet Suggestions

TLK, when I say productive, I’m thinking of the following use cases:
carry the device with me to a meeting and take notes,
hook it up to a projector/TV and run a presentation,
edit a word document while listening to music on the bus/train,
video conferencing with colleagues.

Most of these use cases require true multitasking which the IPad does not support at the moment - partly due to it’s OS and partly due to the hardware memory limitation of 512 MB.
On the applications front, I’m a heavy user of mind mapping software apps online that require flash, so I can’t use the iPad. Lastly, I personally don’t find the IPad to be all that portable either and am looking for a somewhat smaller form factor where I can use my thumbs to type while holding the device in landscape mode.

Re: Tablet Suggestions

Tofi… any updates on the ASUS tablet? did you get one? let me know…
it’s still not available in Canada, but I’m keeping an eye on this one since it can do double duty as a tablet or a netbook.

Re: Tablet Suggestions

I’ve been doing a lot of that with my HTC Evo. On top of these it has direct access to my Google Apps, guides me with directions AND traffic info if I get stuck, podcasts, phoncalls besides.

Last I checked its still not on shelves and I was impatient. So I went and spent my money on a camera upgrade.
Nikon D5100 should be arriving at my door step any day now

Re: Tablet Suggestions

I would recommend** Asus Eee Pad transformer**](Amazon.com : ASUS Eee Pad Transformer (TF101) 10.1-inch, 16GB, Android Tablet - 1GB RAM, Android 3.2, NVidia GEForce : Tablet Computers : Electronics).

I bought 2 (one available for sale) of them on the launch (April 26th) for reasons/features already known plus its a good add-on to my htc evo.

Re: Tablet Suggestions
