well said!
I find many peoples' replies extremely offensive.
You want to know where the Syeds exist? I'll tell you.
My grandma is Iranian, and she's a Syed.
Ali Mousavi in the Iranian international soccer team is also a Syed.
So was Ayatollah Khomenei.
I know Lebanese Syed families, and even Egyptian ones.
There are Syeds even in Najd in Saudi Arabia.
There are Sunni Syeds as well as Shia Syeds.
Some of the Syed last names in Iran are:
Mousavi
Razavi
Ali Zadeh
Hossein Zadeh
etc.
Why are you people so against Syeds?
I'm not saying we are greater than you, but it is not fair of you to deny our existence!
I CHALLENGE YOU ALL
I have read all three pages rerding the discussion about syeds, caste system, hindu culture.
I have read many statements denoucing all the above. but can tell you with practical experience that this is no more than talk.
Wait till you come up with a practical issue like i pointed out about marriages to non syeds especially a syed girl marrying a non syed man. It becomes a totally different ball game.
All of you may be coz of education or other influences are saying and talking about equal opps but your fathers and mothers may not agree on this.
There view is that syeds are better than all the rest, it does not matter about deeds they will get heaven just by being related, non syeds are less than syeds. (This and other things have been said to me by a person who stated she loved me the most)
All the views you all are stating changed when her and his daughter stated that she wanted to marry me.( i am a non syed but Imam Hussains pbuh wife comes from my Gakhar/Kiani. family)
Wait till you come to a practical issue your views will cahnge.
Or you can all do me a favour by telling all your elders that that every one is equal in Islam.
YOu can change my views by obtaining a Fatwa stating that it is possible.
( Recently a syed girl married a non syed, only the mother gave consent, the family members through influence obtained a Fatwa stating that it was un lawful and any one who does will be killed and also any one who assists. This fatwa was given by a Shia maulvi from Sargodha region of pakistan)
See if you can get a Fatwa to say that it is possible!!
That is my challenge to you who speak of equality!!!!!!!!! from a shia a scholar if possible!!!
Send me an email at [email protected] when you have been succesful.
Proove all of us wrong that the people who are descendants of the Imams are up to the task.
Prooving me wrong will enforce the idea that the caste system does not exist in Muslims
( I hope you can)
BE SUCCESSFUL FOR GOD SAKES
REMEMBER NTHE LAST ADDRESS OF THE PROPHET AND ITS HUMAN RIGHTS CHARTER!!!!!

Yeah maybe our parents will not agree on it because they are not educated :) hahaha
anyways, as some wise person pointed out a while back, not all five fingers are equal and stereotyping has its own issues.Do all syed's marry within syed's? not from what I have seen.
Dont we have other "zaat paat" issues in Pakistan.. rajput, chaudhry, randhawa, khokhar, dogar etc etc etc and although they dont have religeous facets they operate just like a caste system.
The people who want to have some pseudo-caste system will continue doing it and others will not. I myself had to prove to this girl's family at one point that I indeed was a syed, later the shia-sunni complications ended the whole deal. So where I agree with you that some people are hell bent on it, I know that many are not.
I guess it does go back to how educated the family is- both in religion and general context.
Awwwwwwwww whats this? Trying to get your self a status in Muzna’s flaming post?
Hahahahahahahaha
These little personal attacks are for girls and Mods here.
You gotta curse to get me turned on…So I can spank you silly

...Oh, crap...I'm imperfect Syed...I listen to music...my parents will kill me...oh, God.
:p :p :p :p :p :p
So no one has any authentic proofs to prove that they are from the family of the prophet? Only personal-sayings and what their parents told them, huh? Doesn't help any open minded and fact-oriented person in determining who are the real syeds today.
Its all about fame and getting respect, nothing more, nothing less. Who are the REAL syeds, we will never know in our life time. :)
[YOU] TAKE it easy.

You will find the real Syeds just by watching their behaviour. Their modesty will set them apart from everyone else.
They will never lay claim to anything. They will be truthfull, sincere and God-fearing. They will be kind, generous and forgiving. Look carefully, you will find them.
well said Ms Muzna,
But then they will not call themselves Syeds rather they will call them as being muslim.;)
Dear Muzna,
Modesty all right.
I can tell you many stories from Pakistan which are shattering to people who CLAIM they are syeds or related to family of the Prophet.
I mean, if you are a syed, or you claim to be, bring some proof that you are. Modesty does not count, there are good and bad people in every society and every family for that matter.
If we were to judge who really is syed, according to you we would just look for modesty in that person, right? I believe, you are syed as well, or married in a syed family, right? I can understand, why you would bring modesty in this issue, rather than actual facts to prove it to OTHER modest people that people who claim to be syeds are really syeds and not some frauds claiming to be one so people would think they are modest. :)
I am extremely sorry, If I have offended you in ANY way. :D

Firstly, frauds cannot be modest. (With the exception of our dear Fraudia, of course.) So your scenario of a Fraud claiming to be Syed does not arise. If you are fooled by a fraud and cannot see the lack of modesty, well.....there's nothing anyone can do about that.
Secondly, me marrying into Syeds has nothing to do with the subject whatsoever. In fact, you will have noticed that I started participating in this thread with sarcasm.
My husband's family make no claims to be descendants of our beloved prophet.....but I hold them in no less regard than I would someone that could legitimize their claim.
In fact, I would treat everyone equally. And this includes not asking them to prove anything.
Afterall, anyone that claims to be a direct descendant is not asking for any better treatment or any more respect. The problem lies in the people that feel obligated to offer it.
I think, I have made my apology concering offending you in ANY way.
Now, dearest Muzna,
Could you tell me why are there so many “syed and Shay” women working in film industry of Pakistan? [Film industry of Pakistan says it all about what it is like there…]
Modest syed women would not dance in front of millions of people…I don’t want to go on about what “modest women would not,” I think you get the idea what I am trying to say here.
Unless, anyone have solid proof that they are syeds other than claims, claims there is no way one can determine if one really is syed or not. As I said, its all about getting fame and respect - I can claim, I am syed, but what good will that do? Nothing.
Again, I am extremely sorry, if I have offened to you in ANY way.
[YOU] take it easy.

I HAVE COME TO SOME CONCLSUIONS THAT THE SYED/SHIA/SUNNI DIVIDE ONLY EXITS IN THE SUB-CONTINENT MAY BE DUE TO THE INFLUENCE OF THE HINDU ATE SYSTEM.
nO OTHER SYEDS FROM ANY OTHER COUNTRY TALK ABOUT THERE PRESTIGE OTHER THAN SYEDS FROM PAKISTAN AND INDIA.
SYED/SUNNI MARRIAGES ARE COMMON IN ALL OTHER COUNTRIES.
SUNNI/SYED TIES IN THE SUB CONTINENT ARE ONLY CONSIDERED AS FAMILY FRIENDS OR MUREED BY SYEDS.
SHIA SYEDS HOLD A GREAT DEAL OF HATRED FOR THE FIRST 4 CALIPHS AND MANY SAHABA. DUE TO DIFFERNT VERSIONS OF HISTORY.
SUNNI FAMILIES DO NOT CHALLENGE SYED VIEWS DUE TO THE FACT OF THERE CLAIM TO BE DECENDANTS OF THE PROPHET.
THIS BARRIERS CAN ONLY BE BROKEN BY ALL YOU BROTHERS AND SISTERS FROM SYED FAMILIES WHO HAVE SHOWN A GREAT DEAL OF SENCE AND KNOWLEDGE.
I WISH THE BEST OF LUCK.
MAN, I am sure you have thoughtful things to say in your replies, but could we please drop the CAPS? PLease. [never been this nice to anyone in my life] ![]()
Please.

As far as people claiming linkage to major islamic figures. Is it only syed's.. what about siddiqui, farooqi, osmani.
So if we are talking about people using, or claiming linkages with certain figures as a form of caste system, then lets include all other such factors. Similarly qureshis, hashmis etc etc fall under the same fold because whether you claim link to a person or a group...if it is used as a social status guage, lets factor in all of them.
Assalamu álaikum warahmatullah,
My dear brothers and sisters in Islam.
I see that many of you write postings that are very emotionally driven without having dalil or nas from the al-Quran and Sunnah about the ahlul bayt, may Allah be pleased with them and include us among those he has purified.
I am a Sunni and my descendants hail from the blessed land of Hadramaut, Yemen before they went to India and then to Java.
So what race does that make me? I don't follow many Arabic customs and culture, neither do I speak Arabic though I understand a bit, and neither do I eat Arabic food all the time. I have some Arabic features, but it is not typical, people may call it a "muwallad" look, ie, local born Arab.
I look more Indonesian. Does that nullify the Arab in me? No! Cos technically, I am of Bani Qureish. Based on what the Holy Messenger said, whomever claims a race that he is not as his, and a man as his father while that man is not, will get the la'nat of Allah and humankind.
So, a man's race is based on his father, who is again based on his father's so on and so forth. So a sayyid descendant of Sayyidina Hasan or Husin must be the race of Sayyidina Hasan and Husin, and that of Sayyidina Muhammad, ie an Arab of Bani Qureish, Bani Hasyim, al-Hasani or al-Husaini.
What's so great about being an Arab and a Qureish? The Holy Messenger has said, love of the Arabs is because of 3 things: One because the Holy al-Quran is in Arabic (not Indonesian, or Pakistani or Chinese or some other Ájami language), 2nd because YOUR NABI IS AN ARAB, and thirdly because the language of the Heavens is ARABIC, not any other.
And the Qureish is most superior among all Arab clans, based on his various hadith insyAllah I'll post it another time. Sayyidina Abu Bakar, when the Ansar (of Aus and Khazraj clans) wanted to forward one Ansar sahabah as a Khalifah, made a statement to all the Muslims of Medina, saying that the Arabs as a whole, could never accept a non-Qureish as a leader. That is someone from Aus or Khazraj or Banu Asad or the other Arab tribes would never get a widespread acceptance.
And to this, all the Arabs Muslims of Medina agreed.
That's why all the 4 Khulafa'ar-Rasyidin are all of Bani Qureish.
There is also a saying (I can't remember if its a hadith or saying of an alim) that says hatred or dislike to an Arab constitutes nifaq.
As to the descendants, the Holy Messenger has declared many things about their honour and importance (fadhail) and these are also in the Holy Quran. Among others, the Holy Messenger has said that because Sayyidatina Fathimah has kept her chastity, Allah Taala has forbidden hell for her and HER DESCENDANTS. The Holy Messenger also has supplicated that Allah Taala save his descendants from hell-fire and said that Allah Taala has answered it.
These are all from Sunni sources not Shiites. The Sunnis follow the ways of Rasulullah most closely in loving and adoring the ahlul bayt as his descendants, and respecting and cherishing the sahabis as the best people from the ummah who had helped him in the early struggling days of Islam, may Allah be well pleased with all of them.
Most ahlul bayt are Sunnis, and up to today are either big ulemas or awliya'. Imam Ja'far Sadiq and the other Imams, Syaikh Abdul Qadir al-Jailani al-Hasani, Syaikh Abil Hasan Áli asy-Syadzili al-Hasani, Syaikh Ahmad ar-Rifai, the BaAlawi Saadah of Hadhramaut al-Husaini, the Ahdaliyyah Saadah of Yemen al-Husaini, the Hashimis of Jordan and many countless others in Syria, Egypt, the Maghribis and Iraq are all Sunni.
Contemporary Sayyids Ulemas who are Sunnis include Sayyid Muhammad bin Yahya al-Ninowy, al-Habib Umar bin Hafizh BaAlawi al-Husaini, al-Hbb Ali Zainal Abidin al-Jufri al-Husaini, Sayyid Muhammad Yaqoubi, as-Sayyid asy-Syaikh Hisyam al-Kabbani etc etc.
Only a handful are Shiites and are mostly in Iran, Iraq and India. I will post insyAllah the source of this statement issued by one sayyid alim.
Allahu a'lam.
Re: Syed/Shah family trees
Thank god the prophet didn't have sons, this is insane.
Re: Syed/Shah family trees
What a twisted thread. I dont know why being a seyed is such an issues here? I wasnt aware being proud of your heritage is automatically an insult or degradation to anyone else. Why does being seyed, quraish or hashemi tend to bring out insecurity in other people?
Being seyed does not imply you are better or worse than anyone else in God's eyes, nor does it imply you ought to be revered like a saint, but it is your God given heritage, and you ought to be proud of it.
Just like you might be proud of your pakistani or muslims heritage, You have every right to feel honoured in being the decendants of the Prophet (saw) and his companions. It is part of your identity and and shouldnt be an issue for anyone else, unless it is being used to look down on others.
I mean since when has being proud pakistanis or muslims an insult to non pakistani/non muslims? Can you see the twisted logic being subscribed to here?
Re: Syed/Shah family trees
Why bother , after 1947 , half of the immigrants become Syeds overnight ![]()
