Syed/Shah family trees

Salaams everyone.
I am interested in family trees. I would like to compare them with mine. Any Syeds on this site? Please post your shijrah. I will post mine soon.

I am a Hashemi. I have the family tree from wayyyyy back.. but it's w/ my chacha. So.. cannot post it here :( sorry!

Where are Hashemi from?

My dad's Syed, whats a shijrah?

A "shijra" is a family tree. I wanted to compare family trees of other Syeds with mine and find out where they "split".

...we are Syed/Shah
...even though it isn't possible to post the shajera here but here is a little detail
...Syed Islah-uddin Shah,(g.g.great grand father) came from Afghanistan three centuris ago. Settled in NWFP.
...He came from Qandahar, Afghanistan for spreading Islam. His forefathers came from Iraq...and before that from Hazrat Zain-ul-Abdin(RA)...
...that's all i know...

Sardar Asif, yeah I am a descendent of Hazrat Zainul Abedin. I am the 47th from Hazrat Ali (r.a). My ancestors came from Iran and then settled in Bejwar. I think it is in Punjab (India). They were there for about 10 generations and then then my great grandfather moved to Sanglahill (present day Punbjab/ Pakistan). His sons settled at different places over the Indian subcontinent. We have relatives in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
You think you could get you hands on your family tree? It will be interesting to compare them. It's better if we e-mail them instead of posting it here. What do you think?
Thanks for the book name. I'll try to find it.

salaam shakir sahab,
unfortunately my shujra-e-nasab is in pakistan and my taya holds on to it. I have one of my rishtaydar's shujra though since i have a book written by his grandfather and it has got the geneology at the back.

Are you shia, shakir bhai?
send me yr shujra e nasab anyways, i will be more then interested to read.

I am a shah/syed too. but family settled in ambetta and saharaunpur area. Shah abul-muw'Ali was a fairly well known figure. Way back the family also helped set up jamiah al aloom and mazahar al aloom.

There is a publised book about the family tree and history titled "Haseen Yadein" which I dont have a copy of but my parents do. I do have a copy of just the shajra goign back all the way but its in a hardcopy format, never put it on family tree maker or scanned it.

From what I understand some people keep the shajras fairly secret so outsiders dont start acting as imposters, dont know if it holds true these days.

You said your family settled in Punjab, which is very close to saharanpur where my ancestors settled and they all used the "shah" in their name so we may have common links.

I am not around much these days, but am I regular, so will be in touch with you regarding this. I actually ran into a distant relative of mine just by chance in US, which was very interesting.

Hashemis R from bani hashim, the tribe the Holy Prophet (pbuh) was from. Bani Quresh was the main qabeela.. & one of its minor qabeelas was bani hashim.
Hashemies R originally from Saudia Arab. Some of them migrated to South east Asia later on to spread Islam & married there. This led to the Pakistani, Irani, Indian Hashemis.
Enough said?

Sallam brothers

I am from the Gakhar family also known as Kiani. The wife of Hazrat Hussain pbuh was from our family. So Syeds families who know and have studied family trees respect us being there maternal family( being from the mothers side).

I am in a dilema regarding two issues i hope that your elders or friends can answer them,

  1. CAN A SYED MAN OR WOMAN GET MARRIED TO A NON SYED.??

  2. WHY IS IT THAT SOME SYEDS ARE SUNNI AND SOME ARE SHIA?

i HOPE WE CAN GENERATE SOME DBATE AND DISCUSSION ON THESE ISSUES BECAUSE BOTH OF THESE ARE EFFECTING MINE AND MY FAMILIES LIVES.

Wasalaam.

The answer to your first question.

Yes they can, but most of the time the families are very protective of passing the name on to outsiders. Many fights and family feuds have resulted because of this issue.

But it has nothing to do with religion.

BTW I am a Sayed/Shah also, I don’t know much about it. But I will defiantly get to see my family shijrah and learn more about my ancestry when I visit Pakistan this time.

And it’s very true that families keep their Shijrah secret. In my family no1 knows where it is. I was told it’s with my father’s far uncle but when someone from the family wants to see it; then family elders make the arrangements.

Salaaaam

i'm not syed.. but my mom's family is .

i'm a siddiqui :)

i have no clue about my family tree.. but i'd really like to find out.

-mehndi :)

My Dad a Syed/Shah....don't know anything more than that...:)

glad to see so many Syeds out there.

my grandpa’s family is descended from Imam Ali Naqi (AS). They migrated from Iraq to Bukhara in Uzbekistan, later came down to Kashmir and Hazara division of NWFP, some went as far as Sindh.

However my grandmother is Iranian, Mousavi from Imam Musa Kazim and she’s from Esfahan, so our family is divided between Iran and Pak.

I have made a website http://www.greatsyeds.com

i’m thinking of putting it on a dedicated server.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT SHAJIRAS ARE TO BE KEPT SECRET, DONT PUT THEM OUT IN PUBLIC CUZ PPL CAN COPY THEM.

...i agree with the fact that the shajira is kept away from intruders. There are many people who have changed their names to claim the ancestory.
...yes, we do marry outside the family, even though rarely.
...As far as the question of Shia and Sunni is concerned, YES there are both. Due to the simple fact that our lineage is to the same family but due the Imams later, it divided into shia and sunni...
...It is good to feel the warmth of our own blood on this thread...and the guys showing interest in knowing where they came from...
........salaamz.......

I'm Syed, but dont know bout my shijra.
Have to ask my daadi jan, but she's in karachi, so u'll have to wait :D

So does this mean we're cousins ??

....sardar asif, u r right we are related...
...it's good knowing ya...:)
...shakir, fraudia, brat, and all...nice to hear that............salaamz
