Swine Flu

Around 1000 people are suspected , 20 already dead , streets of Mexico city Mexico are deserted. Army has been called and no one is allowed to go out of city.

Around eight cases have been reported in CA and TX, can this new strain of flu cause a global pandemic?. Let’s hope and pray that this is not what WHO had warned about months ago, a global killer that can wipe out half of the population of the world, let’s hope and pray that this is not the “Bird Flu” that was considered inevitable, a ticking pandemic to salvage humanity form inhuman practices.

Re: Swine Flu

VERY scary.

Wash hands often. We have a fairly large hispanic/mexican neighborhood in our area and I just pray that we dont have travellers from/to mexico city where the cases have been. WHO is saying it could develop into a worldwide pandemic pretty quickly and I'm wondering if I'd be overly protective if I supplied those paper face masks to our school.

:( may God/Allah protect us all, esp our children.

Re: Swine Flu

60 were dead as of last night already.

Re: Swine Flu

^ in US or mexico?

i heard about this last night....these things freak me out. May Allah protect us all!!

Re: Swine Flu

^ in Mexico - and the number is at 68 now. One confirmed case in San Antonio Texas and results for 9 N.Y. students will come tomorrow from CDC.

Re: Swine Flu

Some symptoms, like other flu strains:

high fever
headaches
muscle pain

Please be careful.

Re: Swine Flu

TX, CA and Mexico affected so far.

Epidemic: an expected event such as flu
Pandemic: when a new strain of virus appears and it is belived to spread globally

-Wash your hands
-Stay away from people who are coughing/sneezing
-Go see the doctor as soon as flu symptoms come up so a proper test can be done to rule out this new strain.

Some CDC information here: LINK

They keep saying that you can’t get this from eating pork but I dont think that would be much of a problem for this website’s members.

Update

Here is comes!

NEW YORK – **
Two cases of the human swine influenza have been confirmed in Kansas and one more in California**, bringing the U.S. total to 11. At least eight students at a New York City high school probably have swine flu also, but health officials said Saturday they don’t know whether they have the same strain of the virus that has killed people in Mexico.
Rest of the story…

Re: Swine Flu

^ hopefully they might be able to come up with vaccine in the beginning of May. Its sad that its spreading pretty fast b/c people with symptoms been traveling and now they dont really have prompt cure.

Re: Swine Flu

^ I heard on the news that one of the main ingredients for the vaccine will be available by early May and then the amount of vaccine needed will take another 3 to 4 months to produce.

Re: Swine Flu

someone is traveling and they have a stop over in NYC for about 5hrs....

is it safe for them to travel ?

Re: Swine Flu

Re: Swine Flu

Tips for containing spread of swine flu

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and New York City Health Department are recommending several steps to prevent the spread of the virus.

• If you have flu symptoms, stay home from work or school to avoid spreading the disease. Do not return until two days after your symptoms are gone.

• Cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze, and wash your hands frequently.

• Go to the hospital if you have severe symptoms such as difficulty breathing, but if your symptoms are mild, stay home in order to avoid spreading the virus to others at the hospital.

• Masks may be recommended for health-care workers, family members and others who come in close contact with swine flu patients, but there is no need for the general public to wear masks.

Re: Swine Flu

HAHAHA a flu outbreak in non-flu season… just when the govt is working on healthcare reform!
you’d be CRAZY to take the vaccine…the vaccines have killed more people than the flu. dont people remember george bush saying the bird flu will kill 2 million americans? and people rushed to take the vaccine ending up paralyzing them…

so far the WHO has reported only SEVEN deaths in mexico (hardly a pandemic) http://www.who.int/csr/don/2009_04_29/en/index.html and one death in US

im just saying this is hardly a cause for alarm yet and people should actually be avoiding taking vaccines.
