someone is traveling and they have a stop over in NYC for about 5hrs....
is it safe for them to travel ?
We should continue to be as normal as possible. There are no restrictions imposed on us by the CDC as of yet. inshAllah may all of this come to an end real soon.
I think there is also a level 5. That doesnt mean anything other than the fact that it has been established that the transmission is human to human and fairly quick.
shweetz...there is no vaccine yet and not likely that there will be one any time soon so not to worry.
Some things that WILL help tho! ...
Oregano Oil. I heard on CNN that health food stores have been selling out of this and had no idea what it was so I googled it. Apparently, its a very powerful homeopathic anti-viral. Which (say the "experts") if you take it, you dont even need to get your yearly flu shot. I bought a bottle at our local homeopathy/natural foods store and there were only 2 bottles left and it was horribly expensive.
And of course wash hands often!! Dont handle cash or change - theres really no need when you have an ATM/Debit card.
Keep fingernails short.
Forget about medical masks. all our local stores are sold out completely. And the pharmacies are out of tamiflu and the other one that starts with "r"...so go get oregano oil, anti-bacterial sprays, hand-wipes and lotions and may we all stay healthy.
Lets get with the program people. Pigs were sick. They had a flu. It became airborne and mixed (apparently) with avain and human flu. One of the sick ones coughed, a human got the resulting sputum on him/her self and became sick. Pig are now completely out of the picture because humans are transmitting between themselves. The actual eating of pork was never in the picture here and has nothing to do with the virus thats rampaging around the planet. So chill about that and start planning for how to contain and prevent infection.
MO3 is right. Pigs are out of the pic now- It's a human to human transmission.. this strain has mutated very fast and is now spreading rapidly.Right now, there is no vaccine for this strain and seasonal flu vaccine won't prevent swine flu- Vaccine won't be available for another 3-4 months but Federal resources have been deployed to the states to distribute if needed.. there is no shortage of antivirals and PPE at this time so it shouldn't be of concern. No Travel Warnings have been issued for out of state/country travel yet except for to avoid non-essential travels to Mexico.
For travel, use your judgement-If you are sick then dun travel to the area where there are no confirmed cases yet and if you are travelling from the outbreak area, exercise personal surveillance that is Report to your doctor or Health Department if
-You have flu like symptoms with a fever of 100F
-You have travelled to one of the outbreaks area
-You came in close contact with the confirmed case
Rest just practice the regular hygience rule..I posted this in another thread but here it is again...
You can protect yourself from swine flu the same way that you protect yourself from seasonal flu.
Avoid holding, kissing, shaking hands with people who have cold or flu like symptoms.
Wash your hands more often with soap and warm water.
Clean and sanitize things that are shared at the offices such as door knobs/phones/copier etc.
If you get flu like symptoms, stay home.
Stay 3-6 ft away from the person if you see them sneezing at the supermarket or other places.
Sneeze/Cough in your elbow or use tissue
Last but not least practice voluntary social distancing- Avoid going to gatherings especially if you live in an area with the outbreak.
Keep yourself updated with your town/city/ county/state swine flu updates!!
People, forget pigs, we’ve had the mad cow disease, bird flu as well. Coexisting with any animal makes transmission of diseases inevitable. I’m sure they get human flu as well and post level 5 warnings in their newspapers as well
Anyhoo, yeah, best is to practice the precautions listed above and avoid situations where exposure is possible.
man.. these kinda diseases scare the hell out of me!. Its been 3/4 days now i've been coughing badly and have had fever. As soon as I heard about this swine flu, i became regular in taking my medication on time..and I hope to be better very very soon.. everytime i cough , i think about this flu..argh!! btw.. what are some of the symptoms of this swine flu?
What are the symptoms?
The symptoms of swine influenza are similar to normal influenza (fever, cough, tiredness, muscle aches, sore throat, chills, shortness of breath, runny nose, headache). Some cases of swine influenza have also complained of vomiting and diarrhoea. In some cases, swine influenza can result in a severe pneumonia. Symptoms of influenza generally appear between two to four days after exposure.
What should I do if I develop symptoms?
People who develop influenza-like symptoms should stay at home until they are completely better. People who have recently returned from affected areas and who develop influenza-like symptoms or breathing difficulties should contact their local public health unit, general practitioner or emergency department.
Swine influenza virus infection can be diagnosed using swabs from the nose and throat. Testing is done at a specialised laboratory.
If swine flu is much like the regular flu then what particular thing in it is causing people to lose life?
going by the evidence that only one baby in the US has died and only seven in mexico died, it seems it is most dangerous for those with a compromised or weak immune system and with little attention to hygiene or no access to good healthcare (mexico = poor people)
btw the common flu usually kills 20,000-30,000 people in america each year anyways (reference to the U.S. C.D.C)...most of them again those whose immune systems are weak and who do not have access to good healthcare ....just something to think about before we get hysterical....
oh....drug stores are SOLD out of hand sanitizers...even baby wipes lol. people are hoarding up on groceries even.....
