Swine flu continues to spread!

It is mind boggling that this virus was all over the media for few days in US, many schools closed for days/week(s) in different cities/states then all of a sudden it disappeared from media while it continues to spread worldwide.

Is swine-flu finished in US? or has it been suppressed in US because of economical fears associated?

In India there are 1000+ cases while 10 deaths known so far.

I think flu cases have gone down in US because of the summer season. The flu season starts in the middle or end of fall and last throughout the winter. In USA, late October will be the month to watch.

USA is bringing out its flu vaccine by the end of this month. In India, the flu has arrived and I think they are still testing the vaccine.

Hope vaccine comes fast because a densely populated country like India is sititng duck for any virus which spreads through air

… guys just adding my two pennys worth but on a flight from the UK to UAE , all passengers were asked to fill in a questionnaire about whether we had flu or had been in contact with people who had flu or flu like symptoms…and then what I was amazed at is whilst through customs.. we went through a high tech screening that monitored ur temp and stuff and.. they even had medical staff wearing masks… it was pretty thorough but I suppose well equipped…just UAE’s way of taking flu virus seriously…or alternatively its a method of giving our Emiratis jobs !!!

Sad part is that the Indian Govt has been caught napping. There are long queues in testing centres and it is a nightmare to get yourself tested.

Are testing kits freely available in your countries. How is your country bracing itself during this difficult time.

The last i heard, India will import a small quantity enough only to vaccinate the health workers. USA on the other hand will have enough to start mass vaccination campaigns. They have divided their population into various age groups, with some groups having a higher priority in the vaccination campaigns. But i wonder what kind of priority would be given to non citizens.

I have just recovered from swine flu. I have never been so ill in years. I hope the vaccine is readily available for all soon.

A case has been detected in faisalabad.

FAISALABAD: A 14-year-old boy suffering from swine flu was sent home by a hospital on Thursday, allegedly before he had fully recovered.
Abdullah Maqbool of Chak 327-GB, Toba Tek Singh, had returned from Saudi Arabia a couple of days ago. He was taken to the Allied Hospital for a check-up.
He was examined by a general physician and an ENT specialist in the outpatient department.
The boy’s father Dr Maqbool Ahmed, who works in Saudi Arabia, told doctors that his son had tested positive for swine flu in Saudi Arabia and he had stayed in a hospital in Bisha from June 14 to Aug 11.
The boy’s mother said he had developed flu symptoms around Aug 3, recovered four days later and returned to Pakistan with her after performing Umrah.
He contracted the virus from some Saudi children who were diagnosed with swine flu.
The Allied Hospital has no facility to keep patients in quarantine patients nor equipment for swine flu tests.
The hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr Bashir Ahmed, however, said that medicines for such ailments were available and the boy had been sent home after treatment.
Regional Health Director Dr Mohammad Siddique said a team headed by the executive district officer (health) of Toba Tek Singh had collected blood samples and throat and nasal swaps from the boy’s village which would be sent to the National Institute of Health in Islamabad for tests.
He said the boy was in good shape and recovering and, therefore, there was little chance of his spreading the virus.
He said the boy’s family had been advised to stay indoors. He said medicines to treat the flu were available in government hospitals.
