When is the right age to put the child forward for formal swimming lessons ?
Re: Swimming
What I heard 6 months for basic survival class (swim float swim ) and I believe 2.5 for regular swimming. I m putting my 17 month old for basic survival
Re: Swimming
FAtso, we are regular at going to the pool since he was 2 months old and he seems comfortable with the water . how do they teach the basic survival to such a little kid? is it something like “water confidence” ?
Re: Swimming
I have registered my LO for swimming lesson for after ramadan. He will be almost 3, but honestly i think he would have been fine at learning last year as well. He LOVES the water!
Re: Swimming
I wish I had put her in when she was an infant…
You know that classes where they just dunk the kid? Those.

Re: Swimming
Urgh ever since I read that article about secondary drowning, I am petrified of seeing him anywhere close to the water
Re: Swimming
Mine will be 4 soon and she’s starting next month ![]()
Re: Swimming
my niece’s daughter [11 months old] has just graduated from her first swimming course and she got a certificate of passing…her first ever!
she loves water and i hope she’ll be a good swimmer once she is older! ![]()
Re: Swimming
My husband is teaching my son how to swim. He plans on continue teaching it at home at least for now.
Re: Swimming
Do you guys have a pool?
Re: Swimming
We have a community pool.
Re: Swimming
CB:they teach baby to float : swim : float until they reach end of the pool or someone gets them out of the pool. It’s basic survival incase they fall in the pool and no adult is around
Re: Swimming
CB have you seen this video? http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v0mUPr68x2U
i haven’t put kiddo into regular swim lessons until now but I really want to! IA soon.
Re: Swimming
^this is what my son is learning. Instructor said he can learn in 4 weeks inshallah
Re: Swimming
my son’s fist lesson was at 8 months in a lake and honestly he knew exactly what to do ![]()
I am not a huge fan of public pools for sanitary reasons but fresh water lake or any flowing body of water(that allows swimming) my husband and son go in so technically he never took lessons officially but from his dad.
Keep an eye on your child.. every second matters.. whether they are expert swimmers or not especially until they know how and when to call for help. ![]()
My son started when he was around 6 months but we stopped when i returned to work at 18 months. I plan to get him restarted soon.
Re: Swimming
i am wondering toddlers can hardly perceive or understand to follow complicated instructions , how do instructors get kids to follow them?
Re: Swimming
Kids are natural at swimming.. They were floating in the womb so probably that’s why it just comes to them instinctively.. Trust me I have seen it.. My 4 nephews and son took up on swimming like they were born to do this. My 4 year old nephew has been swimming before he could even start walking.. Amazes me ![]()
Re: Swimming
I am realizing with each post in this thread that i am letting my fear of water come in the way of my son’s swimming skills
gotta do something about it , I think I must try and have full confidence in the trainers .
Re: Swimming
^ good place to start! Have you considered taking lessons yourself?
