Swimming

Re: Swimming

My daughter took proper lessons last summer when she was 3 yo.She was the oldest kid amongst all the beginners.Kids do learn how to swim and get acclimatized to water more easily than we can think. She is enrolled in lessons for this year too, starting in two weeks. She is pretty excited about it…
I cannot swim (though I really wish I knew how to) and am generally scared of water and water bodies. This made me want more for my kid to try to learn how to swim. Before the lessons, she had been in the wading pools so was used to to the whole feeling and also loves it so it all went ok.Though I do feel I should have started a bit early. But I guess it is never too late.

Re: Swimming

SGC, I got with him to the swim sessions in a toddler group but they just let you enjoy the water , which is neck high, holding your baby in the water. They dont give proper training in swimming unless you enrol in their teaching sessions.

I havnt been able to muster up the courage to learn swimming as yet. the fear of water grips me every single time :frowning:

Re: Swimming

My daughters 7 and 8 are learning to swim these days. We tried doing this 2-3 years back but they kept getting sick so had to discontinue the lessons and work on their immune system.

My 5 years old daughter and newphews 7 and 4 are leaning swimming now. They had 18 lessons so far. They love going to swim school. I dont know really know how is their performance assessed. They charge $18 for 30min lesson.
Besides swimming kids are learning water safety as well.

Re: Swimming

While we were in EU, my sons had proper weekly lessons for swimming every week. We got them enrolled for extra lessons during summer as well, but they could not learn it somehow. They were 7 and 9 years old respectively, at the time when we left for UK.
After moving to Pakistan, I didn’t think we would learn swimming as swimming facilities are rarely available for civilians and especially those who are not government employees. However, alhamdulillah this year we learned about a school near by and joined it. My boys learnt it in a week and girls being younger are still trying.
My youngest isn’t an easy child and wouldn’t let the instructor come near her in the start. So I had to come in the pool to teach her. She has improved her control on breathing and is getting confident but still nowhere near being a swimmer. I think she will be able to learn it by next summer inshaAllah.
