Swim

How many of you ladies actually know how to swim? And how many of you don’t because you weren’t allowed to get in a pool with a bikini on like ever in your life?

Re: Swim

I don't know how to swim. But I really want to learn. The issue of being allowed never came up, as an opportunity never arose where I could learn it. Allowed or not allowed, I wouldn't wear a bikini for swimming, even if it were an all female thing.

Re: Swim

I know how to swim. I took swimming lessons until I was 13. Now I swim at a sisters only swimming program.

Re: Swim

I dont either and I really want to :(

Re: Swim

i know my mom and sister swim at a girls only pool.

although my sister's pretty lazy ... heh

Re: Swim

I can picture a Pakistani girl in full niqab/burqa cannon-balling into my local neighborhood swimming pool! I think I just scared myself for life with that visual ...

Re: Swim

hehe.. sadly it can sometimes be true… i remember this arab woman who used to wear an abaya to swim.. she didnt get very far speedwise  .. didn’t understand it either.. considering the fact that we had seperate timings for women and men.. and the swimming pool was totally shut off from the rest of the compound so u couldnt look out or in..

I LOVE SWIMMING!! was in the school swim team and butterfly was and still is my fav stroke :cb:

Re: Swim

I went for a swim last night after yonks, after a few disgraceful laps, switching between breastroke, front crawl, i decided back stroke was the least physically taxing, as i just had to float on my back and paddle my feet a little. It made me realise i need to swim every day!! swimming under the stars in summer is amaaazing and the water was soo warm.

I remember the very first time I actually swam a length, I was by myself clinging on to the edge of the wall on the deepend in the swimming pool in the golf club across the road from our house. Think I was around 6. My dad was playing golf - dont know why he left us swimming on our own? lol but i decided to take the plunge and did doggy paddle from one end to the other. I can still remember how proud I felt at that moment.

khatoon, butterfly? you must be mighty fit girl :k:

Re: Swim

I can swim, I'm not very good. Wednesday afternoons. I love water. My parents arent close minded. They let us do our thing, anything to get me off my fat ass.

Re: Swim

hunn tu barfee is a woman.now i know why

Re: Swim

i know how to swim, very well, i love swimming

i swim with shalwar qameez and hijaab in pak, in a lake :omg: no joke!

Re: Swim

I had lessons each summer from age 7 till age 14. Its a good, healthy thing to learn and you dont have to wear a bikini, there are many modest swimsuits these days - they're like shorts and tank tops or one-piece suits with skirts. You'd have a really tough time finding a segregated swim program in US or Europe but I think you'd find that the neighborhood pools are usually family-oriented and its not like there are guys ogling and staring.

Re: Swim

Id luv to lern to swim, the guy i marry better build me a swimming pool in the backyard with a hiiiiiiiiigh fence :clown:

Re: Swim

I'm not very good, but I know how to swim. Unfortunately, there's no place around where I live where there are only women hours, so its been years since i've actually done so.

I miss swimming :(

Re: Swim

I know to swim but dont do it for a long time.

Re: Swim

skinny dipping :chupki:

Khawa, I am impressed, your shoulders must be broader than mine.

Re: Swim

Re: Swim

I saw the BEST t-shirt....it said "I dont skinny-dip. I chunky-dunk." lol!

Re: Swim

I know how to swim, to swim and was real good at it too. I even wanted to take part in a competition two yrs ago, dad agreed but ma mom went totally against it as she did not want me showing any of ma body part to strangers :frowning:

Re: Swim

I think sometimes the whole idea of purdah and modesty may be taken a little too far, yeah? I mean in US and europe, its quite natural to go to beach or pool in swimsuits without worry of being ogled and leered at if you go to a family-type pool or beach. Athletic competitions rarely have spectators who are there to ogle and leer, rather they are there for the sport. I do agree with the whole idea of modesty in dress etc but in these cases, ie., when a gal is denied the opportunity to participate in sport, its just sad and unnecessary. I actually think that desi gals (speaking in vastly general terms) are extremely well-suited to the sport of gymnastics but sadly that will never happen due to the mode of dress that is neccessary to participate in the sport.
