Swim

Re: Swim

well denying dress freedom to women has been used as a way to prevent them from achieving great goals in life, it seems as another mean to put women down:(

Re: Swim

exactly, and they send the women off to the kitchen but even then most of the greatest chefs r men.now why is that?hmmmmm.

Re: Swim

i love swimming. i've been swimming since i was 6-7. my dad taught me how to swim. he would take me in the pool on his shoulders and tell me he would hold my hand the entire way but suddenly he would just drop me in the water. the first few times i cried but thats how i learned to swim. by 14 i was teaching the desi aunties and their daughters how to swim...my brother on the other hand would never let go of the corners...so he learned really late. swimming is a GREAT exercise by the way not only does it tone your entire body but the moving of your neck from side to side while swimming for oxygen exercises the neck muscles. BUT cons are the horrible things the chlorine added in the pool does to your hair/skin. u gotta be really careful as in you need to take a long shower to get the chlorine out everytime you swim. and moisturize your skin. also the chlorine can change the color of your hair too.

Re: Swim

Well said, and I totally agree.

Re: Swim

It IS sad ,no doubt abt it but not necessary for life.

lets theorize,u wont b oogled in parties if u wear evening gowns like evryone else ,u wont be leered at if u wear bikinis at family type beaches, its just a gettogether and nobody minds but sooner or later wont it become a way of life, undistinguishable from those whose dont have these restrictions?

Re: Swim

I was in my highschool's swim team my junior year. It was on of my most memorable and best times I had in highschool. I learned to swim when I was 9ish. My mother used to take me to swimming classes every summer when I was little. All my siblings know how to swim, my dad was an excellent swimmer when he was in the Pak army long long time ago. In pakistan, I don't feel like swimming because the water just seems to unsanitary.

Re: Swim

Me and the girls go swimming atleast once a week, its a must.
I love swimming, its the best exercise invented and works every muscle.

I hate the chlorine though, stings my eyes :(

Bikini yikes erm no, I find them annoying, a lycra top/singlet with shorts is better.

Re: Swim

Well most of us ladies here are living abroad, and being a Pakistani-Muslim its not likely to be seen at a public pools… I donno about you but there aren’t many ‘Female Only’ swimming pools around for us to be wearin our bikinis..

oh and I used to know how to swim when i was younger but i forgot now :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Swim

I learned to swim in grade three with the rest of my class. There weren't that many desis around in my class then so I don't know if anyone was disallowed by parents or anything. I doubt it since we were all so young then.

But defying culture and religion I went on (against my mother's wishes as well) to acquire my Lifeguard's certification.

I absolutely love to swim. I still do it and encourage anyone and everyone to, at the very least, learn for the sake of saving their own or their loved ones' lives.

It's a full body workout, therapeutic and a life-skill.

Re: Swim

My parents always encouraged me to swim, they used to urge me to go swimming everyday, the only trouble was the recommended swiiming pool was too small for sum1 my size and was oddly named 'chuloo bhar paani'.

Re: Swim

khaw, a desi chick doing butterfly?! impressive :k:

Re: Swim

Re: Swim

I can understand desi women not being able to swim, but desi men, I've come across quite a few adult desi men who couldn't swim. In fact I've taught a few how to swim. I tell ya', it's not easy trying to teach a 6' 3" tall, 250lb man, how to swim, specially when you take him to the deep end and he freaks out and almost drowns you with himself, and then you have to put him in a choke hold to calm him down.

I'm a certified rescue diver, so I do teach a lot of adults how to swim, if any women are interested, please feel free to contact me. :uhm goofy, smiley icon, dunno how to make em:

Re: Swim

i think swimmng is great for women - keeps them fit and their men honest. But it has to be in an all-woman swimming pool though.
