Re: sweet tooth..

sweet rice .. julebi ... ras malaaeeeeeeeeeei ..... faloodah and a box of celebrations ......

Re: sweet tooth..

Ask: Icecream… we have had enough of it since it’s still summer in Karachi. :sighhh:

(as you mentioned, most of the time I am on the receiving end for the icecream since it doesn’t require cooking for lazy husbands :D)

yfbi: eah I have made ras malai, gulab jaman, etc but how do you make jalebi n sweet rice?

Re: sweet tooth..

just buy julebi and give it him … am sure nirala sweets make good julebi … and as for sweet rice basically i ll have to take lots of time to type it up so its better that you search somewhere or maybe some lady on Gupshup is willing to help ..will help you …

Re: sweet tooth..

LOL ahhh the dilemma of making meetha for husbands :D I bake different types of cakes, the latest was a pineapple upside down cake. Also try apple pie, flan cake, creme caramel etc. Or just make him eat fresh fruit, thats also sweet.

Re: sweet tooth..

I got a sweet tooth myself. Crave something sweet after meals. So as not to indulge in all these fattening stuff, I keep some date rolls cos I need just a tiny bit to satisfy myself. Easy to make here goes:

Heat a tablespoon ghee
Add dates (stones removed and roughly chopped) 1 packet which should be about 500g or so)
Mix well till dates start melting and smooth consistency
Add almonds pistachios and cashew nuts. I keep them whole cos the effect when you slice is great. Also I pre-roast them on low heat to bring the sweetness out.
Mix well

Remove mixture from heat and roll into tubes. Roll the tubes on dessicated coconut. Wrap individual tubes in foil and refrigerate. Once chilled, unwrap and cut into thin slices.

Yummy for kids too and you can add rice krispies or cornflakes

The ghee is important cos it neagtes the "heatiness" of the dates.

Re: sweet tooth..

This is what I make to satisfy my sweet tooth (it is Turkish dessert very easy to make)

8 tbs butter
1 cup flour
750ml milk
3/4 sugar
1 tbs vanilla

Melt butter in pan (make sure it doesn't start burning).
Add flour in it (add slowly and keep mixing). Keep mixing for 30 sec or so
Now add milk slowly into the mixture (and keep mixing at the same time, if you don't do a good job at mixing the gotalia will be formed). Keep mixing until you reach the desire thickness (it should be in half way liquid solid form)
Add sugar and mix it well
Then at the end add vanilla.

Optional step: Pour the mixture in a big bowl use and electronic mixture (highest speed possible) to mix for 3-5 mins.

Now you can put it in a serving blow and refrigerate for few hrs (it taste good when it is cold)

Re: sweet tooth..

Re: sweet tooth..

mmmm that sounds really good SGC.

Sabirya's dessert sounds interesting too.

Re: sweet tooth..

aly-sam.. sounds delicious.. will try it out. :)

njaveed... now that's what I call a simple recipe...feels like if I bake it instead of refrigerating, it will become cake. :D

Sabriya.. hmmmm I udnno if I can find/make couscous in Pakistan but I am definitely saving the recipe though. Thanks for sharing.

SGC...I am so tempted to try this recipe but but but I can't find cream cheese in my neighborhood ..probably I just need to check at some other grocery stores in Karachi city.... if not, I will just omit that ingredient and try it out. :D

Re: sweet tooth..

I know they have cream cheese in karachi but it comes in a different form and now i don't remember what form or brand it was :(

Re: sweet tooth..

Lusi.. the one I bought was brown in color and in lil cubes form.. I didn't use it though.. I also don't remember the name of the brand but it had a cow on the box. :D

Re: sweet tooth..

The wrapper is brown in color and triangle shape cubes? That is the closest to Philadelphia cream cheese you'll get at most of the places unless you check Aghas or some similar grocery store.

Re: sweet tooth..

yeah you can use that, but it'll take a lot of those little triangles :)

and gemini, lady, don't omit the cream cheese... its the heart and soul of the pie and what makes it so special... try the triangles!

Re: sweet tooth..

ok so im at work right now...and literally craving a piece of peach pie...I think im gonna try it this weekend. Now I need something sweet but all I have is the crap in the vending machine!

:(

Re: sweet tooth..

There is this one thing a friend of mine made..not sure what it’s called but it’s light and sweet and is topped with fresh strawberries (or any fruit you like)

She baked some wonton wraps in the oven until lightly golden and crisp. Then she sprinkled some confectioners (sp) sugar all over it then topped it with strawberries and added some cool whip to it. Then she drizzled some melted chocolate on top of it all. It had a light sweet taste to it…and I loved the crunch

other ideas:

-fudge with walnuts :yummy:

  • chocolate covered strawberries

Sorry I am not much of a baker so can’t tell you exactly how to make it.
