Re: Suspended trio head to Qatar for hearings
I don’t know everyone else, but Salman took over from the 2nd test and he was magically able to influence the game from the Oval test onwards…??? sooo bizarre…
seems to me that the influence was more on the whole PCB and team mgmt already rather than an individual and that is why Mazhar was able to work he is way into the young side.
Or Butts was always in cohoots with Majeed brs and becoming captain was a magical moment that allowed him to open the flood gates of influence…
GEO ad comes to mind:

Zaheer Abbas, Asif Iqbal term deferment absurd, Ehsan Mani not surprised by the delay
Former Pakistan captain Zaheer Abbas has termed the ICC tribunal’s decision to defer the spot-fixing verdict to February 5 as “absurd”, while another former captain, Asif Iqbal, found it “strange” that the world body could not reach a decision after their investigations into the matter.
**“The ICC has kept the players hostage for the last five months and now they have deferred the decision, which is inexplicable,” Abbas told AFP. “Because the players will continue to remain suspended they cannot play at any level, cannot practice so they are virtually out of the World Cup.” **
The tribunal, comprising commissioner Michael Beloff, Justice Albie Sachs of South Africa and Sharad Rao of Kenya, was appointed in November to investigate the scandal, which broke in late August. In a News of the World sting, Mazhar Majeed, a player agent, claimed to have paid Amir and Asif to bowl no-balls to order with the collaboration of Butt.
**“The ICC has taken so much time on this case and have spent so much money on it, and yet could not take a decision,” Asif Iqbal said. “It is strange. I am surprised at the delay.” **
Former spinner Iqbal Qasim, however came out in support of the decision to defer the verdict. “Since it is a high-profile case, any judgement needed to be properly gauged, and legal opinion is also required,” he said. “That’s why they have delayed the decision.”
Former ICC chief Ehsan Mani expected harsh sanctions against the suspended trio after a deferment that did not come as a surprise to him. **“I have no doubt in the ability of Michael Beloff and his team,” Mani told News One TV. "It’s a high profile case and the delay was expected. Not to forgot that the players have a right to approach the Court of Arbitration for Sport also, therefore the tribunal wanted to take sufficient time to analysis all angles of the case. **
**“My gut feeling is that all the three will be harshly punished, however I will be very disappointed for Amir who is the best young talent around. The matter was badly mishandled by the PCB. The board abandoned their players and let the ICC to dictate its terms. I believe the PCB also let the players down.” **

Re: Suspended trio head to Qatar for hearings
Mani hit it on the head. So we should all brace for a tough one coming in a few weeks. And pretty much face the facts as they come out. Yes Amer will be a big big loss and I fear it may demoralize the young pak talent as well, because most pakis are into conspiracy theories and this will not go down well in pakistan..

That is exactly "some" parties in the ICC wanted.
Re: Suspended trio head to Qatar for hearings
Wait.. I havent been following this mess very closely in the recent months.. but didn't these 3 players WANT the decision to be delayed?
Re: Suspended trio head to Qatar for hearings
^ ^ yyes they did. decision was delayed on the request of the three players. they wanted jury to take their time to decide their future. i think the main motive was some how they can influence the decision once they have time in their hands.
Re: Suspended trio head to Qatar for hearings
^ ya so why are ppl dissing the panel for delaying it? the players wanted it.
the reasons given by the panel are that there is too much detailed written explanation required for the decisions and the given time of 8-10 days was not enough.., i dont see anything horrible wrong here... they have only delayed it by 3ish weeks.. not 3 months or 3 years..
although i mustg say it looks like the punishments are going to be harsh...
Re: Suspended trio head to Qatar for hearings
what pakistan should demand is if the players are found not guilty then they should be able to join the world cup squad.
Re: Suspended trio head to Qatar for hearings
^ agreed.
if the players had such a high WC priority they shudnt have been asking for punishments anyway?
its all a moot point to me anyway. they are guilty. they look guilty. and they have been acting guilty all along.
Re: Suspended trio head to Qatar for hearings
^ not quite true, only Aamir's lawyer asked for delay. no one else did. The incident took place in summer over 5/6 months ago and they still cant decide what to do. That is really pathetic. ICC's incompetence at its best.
Re: Suspended trio head to Qatar for hearings
^ ^ See icc is not the main culprit. PCB should have taken the matter in their own hands when this whole thing happened. they should have pulled back these players and done an inhome inquiry. they should have punished the players themselves so icc wouldnt have to dig its hands in it. instead mota butt chose to do nothing but blame the ecb and media.
i am not sure that only amir wanted the verdict to be delayed. i have heard it on media but cant find it now that all of them wanted it to be delayed.
here is an old link of butt trying to get it delayed
Re: Suspended trio head to Qatar for hearings
what do you know, asif's lawyer is brother of david cameron. :D
Re: Suspended trio head to Qatar for hearings
it was all over the media yesterday that Aamir's lawyer were asking for a delay as they think it will be in the interest of their client. Anyway it is the reponsibility of ICC to bring this to an early close. How many times have judges delayed their decision because the accused have asked the judge to delay his decision. ICC is just incompetent, I have no love lost for PCB or that thick head Butt.

I'm not a huge fan or a cheerleader for ICC but they are an international organization with complicated rules regulations and procedures that need to be follow. All court systems are like that aren't they? Anywhere in the world. Complicated procedures that need to be followed. Dates getting pushed and delayed and postponed. A few months isn't a long time for a hearing to be held with high profile sportsmen and their competent lawyers involved.
I can understand Pak fans want this to be get done.. if they are guilty.. punish them.. if not.. let them back and move on...

5 months is wqay over the top and reeks of incompetence. Furthermore, what was the point of a six day drama if at the end of it you need another four weeks to understand what has been presented before you. I don't have much sympathy with these players as my posts here will testify but Lorgat is a moron of top order as well.

Did the ICC case/hearing stuff start 5 months ago? the Drama itself started 5 months ago I think. It took a while to get sht together and have the process on the way. Eitherway a few months I think is not toooooo long. I mean sure we would want all cases to be heard and justice handed in a few days but unfortunately that's just not how it works. All the court systems around the world are like that... developing or developed countries. Way too many processes and proper regulations to follow. I am only assuming the ICC has similar processes which might not be the fastest most efficient way but that's just how it is.
Yeah I am not highly impressed by Lorgat either.

Yes the chairman Beloff has been involved all along and chaired the previous hearing as well.
Re: Suspended trio head to Qatar for hearings
crap. Whats the point? Give your freaking verdict.
