Re: Surviving on low income

Btw, I blame OP for releasing information in bits.
Re: Surviving on low income
e.g. when you got no clue about the other person and still cant resist to contribute to a conversation - then you are assuming
also, on top if you have no clue about the situation, then you are clueless
*generally speaking for clarification *
Get a refund from the school you learnt that definition.
I would welcome your comments on any topic, whereas you dont like to hear 'outsider' comments, ok, I suppose I should not be surprised.
Re: Surviving on low income
Surprise? Really. Oh well I am here, posting in this thread, replying to your post.

Re: Surviving on low income
I don't know if it belongs here so please move it to the appropriate section if it doesn't ...
Is it possible to survive in Karachi on 30000 PKR/month. Expenses would include all cng for a bike, medicine for boorhi maan, food, bills (bijli, paani, gas, internet), rent etc etc etc. How can we budget so that we never have to worry about asking others to help? Seems like no budgeting really works so if anyone has any tips or tricks for saving money please share ...
can you request from your family to send $200 each month to you?
i heard $1 = Rs. 92
masla hal. :@:
Re: Surviving on low income
May i recommend reduce your own family's food intake and when guests arrive feed them only what you have cooked for the four-five of you. Once they realize nothing has been cooked they might grow some ghairat.
Easier said than done i know, but drastic times call for drastic measures. And if this is too embarrassing to pull off then i would go with the jamaal ghota like Dr. NomiCA prescribed.
Re: Surviving on low income
I think it's very good of the OP that she has not thus far asked family to send her money (or maybe they can't). She obviously knows that there is probably enough to get by IF everyone respects the income.
She came here asking for advice on how to manage with what she has.
Just tell your husband that you do not want to borrow from other people again and therefore what you have must be spent wisely. You should probably be given all the money for groceries and your MIL just an allowance for herself. By all means, feed everyone but the same food you can eat and what you can manage. We're supposed to be grateful for whatever is put in front of us and say Alhamdulillah... someone needs to remind your husband's family of that.
Re: Surviving on low income
What does CNG stand for/mean?
Bike runs on petrol. CNG is compressed natural gas used in cars, it is cheaper than petrol in Pakistan, but not anymore and these days CNG stations are closed for a longer period of time.
Re: Surviving on low income
I see that on here, but arent salaries quite low in pk?
Well in comparison of the Cost of living which is overall growing like 1 to 2 % every month .. The purchasing power , due to severe economic hardship , is affected alot ..
Salaries were increased for government employees last year or so .... so now Even Support staff ( Poen , sweepers ) makes around 8 to 10 k ( if working in government sector it easily goes upto 12 to 15 k ) but at the end , they are not truly benefited as price for basic commodities goes up every bloody day ..
We moved to Karachi because of his mother's health. We both graduated last year and he was working as a security officer part time while studying full time. Plan was to move to Karachi for a few months until his mother got better & then move back and look for proper jobs. I regret coming here now. It is tough to find a job anywhere but even a menial job in US would have been better than this. That way i would have been able to help him out too. Living abroad i also never thought twice about the prices of aata or chawal, but now i know the value of these basic things that we take for granted. We have been looking at different jobs for him ever since we came here. A basic call centre job gets you anywhere between 15000 to 20000 rupees. & that's a full time job we are talking about
I always get mad at him when there's Salan at home and they have to make new Salan for guests.
.
I don't know his background but after reading you post , I am assuming because he had no real experience that's why he is getting hardship in acquiring a good salaried job .. If he had come with several years of solid professional experience , life in karachi would be a different ball game .
On the same note , I hope he aint working as a security guard here - consider this period as his training period , where he doesnt make much but hopefully it will pay off later here or even in US .
Mehmaan dari for karachittes is quite different nixer ,on occasions it is hard to digest - I have same complaints with my mother , where I think it is quite okayish to server tea / coffee / juice - she does a whole table Nashta for each and every visitor .. Extra dishes whenever my Brother in law visits .. which is like once in a week , when ever my sisters' in-laws come.
I lost me hope and I let her do what ever makes her happy ... As she has been raised like that and there is no point changing her now :)
And it also save me listening the dialogue '' You don't live in Pakistan like that ' :D
Re: Surviving on low income
So how come OP’s husband bike runs on gas? ![]()
Re: Surviving on low income
AGREED! ![]()
Re: Surviving on low income
I don’t really know. I don’t think bikes run on CNG.
I mean cars that run on it have to have cng kits installed which allow them to run on it .

They do - but it aint common ...
Btw riding a CNG bike is like riding a bomb - which could come alive anytime:)

YES support staff make 8-10 K perhaps even more in government sector. This is talking about drivers, gardeners, sweepers, cooks!!!!

These salaries are above the population average too. You must take into account the entire population, most people live on alot less than 30k.
