I see that on here, but arent salaries quite low in pk?

Well in comparison of the Cost of living which is overall growing like 1 to 2 % every month .. The purchasing power , due to severe economic hardship , is affected alot ..

Salaries were increased for government employees last year or so … so now Even Support staff ( Poen , sweepers ) makes around 8 to 10 k ( if working in government sector it easily goes upto 12 to 15 k ) but at the end , they are not truly benefited as price for basic commodities goes up every bloody day ..

We moved to Karachi because of his mother’s health. We both graduated last year and he was working as a security officer part time while studying full time. Plan was to move to Karachi for a few months until his mother got better & then move back and look for proper jobs. I regret coming here now. It is tough to find a job anywhere but even a menial job in US would have been better than this. That way i would have been able to help him out too. Living abroad i also never thought twice about the prices of aata or chawal, but now i know the value of these basic things that we take for granted.
We have been looking at different jobs for him ever since we came here. A basic call centre job gets you anywhere between 15000 to 20000 rupees. & that’s a full time job we are talking about

I always get mad at him when there’s Salan at home and they have to make new Salan for guests.

I don’t know his background but after reading you post , I am assuming because he had no real experience that’s why he is getting hardship in acquiring a good salaried job .. If he had come with several years of solid professional experience , life in karachi would be a different ball game .

On the same note , I hope he aint working as a security guard here - consider this period as his training period , where he doesnt make much but hopefully it will pay off later here or even in US .

Mehmaan dari for karachittes is quite different nixer ,on occasions it is hard to digest - I have same complaints with my mother , where I think it is quite okayish to server tea / coffee / juice - she does a whole table Nashta for each and every visitor .. Extra dishes whenever my Brother in law visits .. which is like once in a week , when ever my sisters’ in-laws come.

I lost me hope and I let her do what ever makes her happy … As she has been raised like that and there is no point changing her now

And it also save me listening the dialogue ‘’ You don’t live in Pakistan like that ’
