Its time Wasim bhai should think abour retirement..
thsi has been problem with Cricketter from subcontinent(Barring Imran) that they keep dragging on till they r humiliated and dumped.
I don't have current information, so don't jump... but didn't our Board decide to use Waseem only selectively to prolong his career and allow him to participate in 2003 WC?
I think I read something like this. Alan Donald is doing the same thing. He is skipping all test cricket now, and is hoping he will be able to remain fit till 2003 to help his team.
Waseem has other medical problems too. Diabetes and injuries. I don't think he will be playing a lot of test cricket, if at all. They will just be using him as a weapon in difficult ODI's. If he is good, he is good. If he does not perform, he will be out of the team. The current captain has no love lost for Waseem, anyway.
I think you definitely need Wasim to play against the Australians and the South Africans. They will be teams to beat in the world cup and Akram should be given the chance to play against them prior to the World cup.
What annoys me is that the board did not consult Akram. Saeed Anwar was consulted but not Akram. A seasoned campaigner like Akram should be given enough respect to at least have the courtesy of talking and explaining their decision to him rather than giving it to the press.

Wasim axed for ATC final; Shoaib Malik set to open
KARACHI: The Pakistan cricket selectors dropped two bombshells on Tuesday. They axed veteran Wasim Akram from the Test squad and promoted young Shoaib Malik to open the batting against Sri Lanka in the Asian Test Championship final at Lahore. Wasim’s exclusion from the 14-member Pakistan squad came as a surprise even though he has struggled for form and fitness in the last one year.
Given that Shoaib Malik is basically considered a off spinner allrounder who bats lower down the order, clearly the decision to line up him to open in the Test match does not appear very logical even given Pakistan’s recent opening problems due to Saeed Anwar’s wrist injury.
A player scores a test century and gets to open for test match.
I think Afridi definetly needs to open for Pakistan, Shoaib needs to come down the order after Inzimam.
Wasim even admitted himself that he was dropped.
He even went along saying that his dropping from his team had to do with Waqar being the captain. He said he is fit and ready to play.
