Re: Supreme Court Judgement at 2.15pm PAK time today
Finally, I don't want to make this an ethnic issue, but I do want to point one thing. Time and again the justices from Punjab have let down our sorry nation, and they did this time too. All the judges from Punjab came together and threw out this case, while judges from Sindh and NWFP supported it. This not a conspiracy theory, but a fact. They have been doing this for last 60 years.
Then don't make it an ethnic issue. I am very disappointed in you, especially as I actually enjoy reading your posts, even though I may disagree with some of your views.
Of the six judges who dismissed the petitions four belong to the Punjab. The other two belonged to Sindh and Balochistan. Without those two non-Punjab judges the verdict could not have gone in favour of Musharraf. Of course excuses will be made to question the Sindh and Balochistan judges and question their loyalty etc, but playing the ethnic card is always stopping pretty low in my voew.

Reza, I respect you views and we don't have to agree with each other. That is the whole point of debate. I have said this before, whatever the decision the SC makes everyone should accept it, not b/c it matter of right or wrong, but b/c I think country has gone through too much.
Also, in interest of full discloser, I'm not Punjabi, Sindhi, Pathan or Blochi. My family is originally from Kashmir, and what I said was based on historic facts. I'm a firm believer in constitutional rule of law, and I fear that if these rotating musical chairs, between corrupt generals, politicians and judiciary that has been proving legal cover for all of their illegal actions will leads to another Yugoslavia. That something none of us want.
BTW, I have no affiliation with any group in Pakistan, nor do I support any group, but I do despise one group more than others. The group that has done more damage to our country than anyone else, the generals.
Re: Supreme Court Judgement at 2.15pm PAK time today
so u are claiming its a punjabis versus non punjabis thing, but how do u know that the non punjabis are right.
No, I never said that. What I said was when it was time for them to stand up for what is right they've always been on the wrong side. That is the reason we're in the mess that we're in today b/c they have been providing legal cover to illegal actions for last 60 years.
Former chief justice Saeeduzzaman Siddiqui on Friday advised opposition parties to accept the verdict of the Supreme Court dismissing petitions relating to dual offices of the president. “The opposition should accept it and there should be no politics of agitation,” he said. Talking to a private television channel, Justice Siddiqui called for a display of the same spirit as witnessed on July 20 when the apex court had reinstated Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.** The government had accepted the verdict wholeheartedly back then and now it was the opposition’s turn to exhibit the same spirit, he added. He said the courts should decide constitutional matters on merit and added that there was no space for sentiments of the people.

Thanks, I understand your view better now, and appreciate now that you're not trying to play some ethnic card. :)
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Vice-Chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim said on Friday that his party respected the Supreme Court (SC)’s ruling on President General Pervez Musharraf’s dual-offices’ petitions.

PPP respects SC ruling: Fahim
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Vice-Chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim said on Friday that his party respected the Supreme Court (SC)’s ruling on President General Pervez Musharraf’s dual-offices’ petitions.
That means BB must be getting pretty good share of cake. If not, she might just change her mind & not accept the SC verdict.
Anyways, it all come down this..which side of the power, and not the principles you're standing. If you're standing on the right side everything is legal, and if you're standing on the wrong side everything is illegal. And than you have Fazlu, who thinks some is legal and some is not depending how much share of the pie he gets. So, to him it could be both legal and illegal...all depends.
Re: Supreme Court Judgement at 2.15pm PAK time today
That is true. So, decision is not for or against either party. Although I would like to know why did the court throw out Dr Anwar ul Huq's petition? His govt employee and so is Mushrraf. If Mushrraf can run for political office why can't he?
Also, I think the SC just kicked the cane down the road. This issue is far from over, and when Justice (R) Wahjudin's rise objection to Mushrraf nomination before the EC, the EC will over rule his objection and this issue will land right back the SC's door. Which means at the end the the day the SC court has to decide whether Mushrraf can remain army chief and still run for a political office.
Word of caution for all sides, and especially Mushrraf supporters. If the SC goes with Mushrraf for whatever reason, keep in mind that it will legalize and legitimize army intervention in politics for all times to come. You may support Mushrraf liberal policies, economic or otherwise, but next time around it might be an Islamist jihadi general. What excuse will you have to oppose him?

I agree with you, these judges have ashamed me as a Punjabi and muslim.
The non-muslim judges like Cornelius and Bhagwan Das and judges from Sindh&NWFP can hold their head high.
Re: Supreme Court Judgement at 2.15pm PAK time today
Yea ... that case was also discarded by Supreme Court on technical ground, else Ifti would have been in trouble. :)
Well that is what I have been saying. The wukla community actually believed that the judges would knock Musharraf out, but in the end the CJ and the judges were only interested in keeping their their own jobs. Of course they will throw some bread crumbs like issuing suo moto notices against the govt to keep the wukla's and "awam" happy, but that's all they will do. In the end it's all about self-preservation, not high minded principles, and the sooner some people realise that, the less disappointed they will be.
