Re: Supreme Court Judgement at 2.15pm PAK time today

I think SC will say that he can contest election provided he gives up uniform, but that will rise another question which 2 years retirement requirement for govt a govt employee.

Pervez Elahi on Aaj TV with Talaat. Interesting interview and he is asking him some really tough questions.

Re: Supreme Court Judgement at 2.15pm PAK time today

I can’t believe it. Aaj TV has not been shut down.

Re: Supreme Court Judgement at 2.15pm PAK time today

Hmmm...possibly. My opinion is that it will be a clear cut judgement that will overturn the "Two offices bill", thereby nullifying Musharraf's right to get re-elected again - by these or the next assemblies i.e. he would have to wait 2 years after retirement as COAS. But they won't make any judgement against his COAS position as it stands.

He will then allow one of his "backups" to stand in the Presidential Elections on 6th October. Musharraf will then retire from the Presidency when his term expires on 15th November, but continue as COAS after an extension given by his chosen successor as President.

Re: Supreme Court Judgement at 2.15pm PAK time today

Raza who are President's covering candidates?
You think Amin Faheem also?
Will Q league accept Amin Fahim?

Re: Supreme Court Judgement at 2.15pm PAK time today

I believe they are Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro, and National Assembly speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain.

Re: Supreme Court Judgement at 2.15pm PAK time today

That is very much a possibility, but I don't think the SC wants a head on confrontation with the military government. However, I do want to point something Justice Iqbal said during the hearings. He said that "doctrine of necessity is buried for good". That kind of gives you an idea & mood of the of justices. They want to undo what the court has done over last 60 years as a rubber stamp for every dictator, civilian or military.

Re: Supreme Court Judgement at 2.15pm PAK time today

Presiding Judge Rana Bhagwandas said the same thing about "doctrine of necessity" this morning. But the same judges have also said that politicians and parliament were capable of deciding their own matters, and not to drag the courts into their squabbles.

Re: Supreme Court Judgement at 2.15pm PAK time today

I agree, and I'm not fan of judicial activism, but the SC has the power of judicial review. Anyway, I hope whatever the court decides...everyone should accept the verdict, and let us not drag the country through never ending crisis.

Re: Supreme Court Judgement at 2.15pm PAK time today

Agree with you totally....

I hope all the stake holders have some sense and accept the verdict. Country can not afford more activism....

Re: Supreme Court Judgement at 2.15pm PAK time today

Present govt. have accepted all the judicial decisions, and I will be surprised if they do not accept whatever they say now.

Re: Supreme Court Judgement at 2.15pm PAK time today

I totally agree.

Though, as if expected the Supreme Court does not touch the 17th amendment (with all it's massive Presidential powers), I think the politicians will get into a very bitter Presidential contest to get their man in. For example BB only put Fahim forward knowing he would not win, but if Musharraf is not going to stand then she will be in a real dilema as to whether to let him proceed. After all he could turn out to be another Farooq Leghari and stab her in the back. In which case she will probably only trust Faryal Talpur (Zardari's sister) and put her forward instead!
