Superstition

Help me understand this

I was explaining to a friend of mine why muslims donot kill spiders, or maybe its some folklore ive heard and have believed in since.

Isnt it true that onec The Prophet was running from a bunch of people with someone, i think it was H AbuBakar when he decided to hide in a cave and God ordered a spider to build a web and pigeon to lay eggs at the mouth of the cave.

Does that come under Superstition??

Now Ive started to doubt my belief.

Re: Superstition

You can kill a pigeon and eat it but you can’t kill a spider.:halo:

Re: Superstition

Yeh that is how the story goes. The spider saved the Prophet and hence we dont kill it....just chuck it out of the window. Same goes with a cat. When the Prophet SAW used to pray a cat used to come and sit on His prayer mat...so we dont kill or harm cats either.......right? anyone else can confirm?

Re: Superstition

hmm I duno, maybe I heard wrong, maybe the spider didnt spin a web.

So I suppose it is Superstition

Re: Superstition

:bizz:… ^^^ .. No it does Not come under superstition… and the .. According to a Hadith of The Prophet SAW.. ‘‘Laa Adwa wa La Tiya ra’’ ..meaning there is no such thing as superstion..

and secondly, the Prophet SAW did not ..NOT run away from anyone but was Granted Permission from Allah Almighty to leave Makkah because the people of Makkah did not listen to Him SAW, and were causing pain to the Prophet saw and his followers, So He left for Madina in order to Preach Islam freely without any threat from the non muslims. … during the Hijrat - Migration to Madina from Makkah, He SAW hid from the non muslims .. cos after they had realised that the Prophet had left the city, they were after the Prophet to Kill Him SAW. Astaghfirullah, the Messenger SAW and His Companion Abu Bakr Siddique took REfuge in the cave and Allah Almighty ordered the pigeon and the spider to cover the caves opening to save the Prophet SAW from being killed.

Barhaal, there is no such thing as superstion, its just folklore as you said. ppl make up stories. but regarding killing spiders, i can look it up as to its allowed or not am not sure at the moment.

Re: Superstition

Okay so Im not the only one who has heard the story.

[/QUOTE]

is it due to respect or what

Does that classify under Superstition or myth or folklore

Re: Superstition

I would be grateful .. if you could get me some reference on this, a hadith or athr or something which suggests so. thanx

The spider did spin the web because when the non muslims saw the cave entrence they saw a web at the entrance and said to themselves that if he SAW had gone in to the cave the web would have been broken..

Re: Superstition

Some spiders can be dangerous so you should kill them before they kill you.

Re: Superstition

like i said, i cant be sure as to why they are not killed .. yes i ve heard that they shudnt be killed ..cos of the incident... but cos i ve not come across solid reference as to why not.

and therefore i would say that, its merely out of Respect cos the spider and the pigeon did aferall save the Prophets life.

Re: Superstition

So why should respect spider but not the pigeon?

Re: Superstition

Yes i see what you mean, lekin mera matlab hai k .. after all the pigeon also was sent by Allah to lay eggs at the entrance . . . then the pigeon shudnt be killed ...

anyway, i am looking for reference from a reliable source as to why you can or cannot kill a spider .. and hw you know which one to kill and which one not to kill .. ie. which is harmful and which isnt..

Re: Superstition

lolz this is what i wana know .. why kill the pigeon when it was also part of the ordeal ... :)

Re: Superstition

a pigeon or a dove?
which layed eggs and hence the the non muslims looked and thought Muhammed SAW cannot be in there!

Anyway we should avoid taking any kind of life unless it becomes a threat to us!!!

Re: Superstition

Pigeons are halal so people do kill them and eat them brother.

Re: Superstition

What if you have spiderphobia and you can't catch them alive to throw them out.
I usually kill them and flush down the toilet only out of fear.

Re: Superstition

I think it was a pigeon and not a dove. Duno.

All I am trying to understand here is that is it okay to not kill the spider out of respect.

My friend thinks it falls under Superstition

Re: Superstition

There are only a few venemous spiders whose bites will kill and they only attack if provoked.

Common house spiders are harmless and cute, they do bite but its kinda like a mossie bite.

I usually scoop 'em up and throw 'em out.

Re: Superstition

i kill them , if they r harmful to then u shud kill them , its nt a gunah or major sin is it also i have pigeon phobia .. i cnatgo near them or newhere where they are :( i wnt them all killed

Re: Superstition

bro, as the narrations have come in ahadith as to which i ve read. the word Hamamatun would translate to ''pigeon'' and yes exactly .. it layed eggs and the thought of the non muslims cud not come to terms with them .. cos they were sum mum buk mun um yun fa hum laa yubsiroon.

yes sista ji.. i know pigeons are halal and are permissable to eat, but what am saying is that, where is the reference or a saying from the companions which dictates .. that spiders are permissable to kill ... and your point also that some spiders are dangerous.. and so how do we work out what to kill and what not to kill .... basically, my understatement would be that there is no such thing as superstion and all spiders are permissable to kill .. if it needs be .. and if not then they are thrown away so that they cant cause harm, and the thought that .. they are to be respected i think should not exist cos logically if you think about it ... they are not to be killed .. and if you say . some are dangerous .. which i agree .... and ppl by respecting one spider may think this isnt harmfull and dont kill it but it harms the person.... so therefore .. bottom line would be .. all spiders are allowed to be killed and pigeons are permissable to eat..

But do correct me sista, if you have reference to state otherwise.. we all make mistakes.. and may Allah forgive me If i say which is aginst ... the truth and facts.

Re: Superstition

So respecting a spider is wrong from religious point of view then??
