Re: Suicide bombing attack near Prophet Mohammed PBUH's mosque in Madinah - 07/04/201
I don't think we can modify historical/ancient texts and I am not proposing that. I am simply saying we need to teach these problematic verses in full context while condemning them before our children learn them from a bad source. What is happening now is that most teachers completely ignore them or they don't teach them properly. It becomes a problem when a child learns the violent verses from a bad source and realizes that this must also be true because the Quran says so.
When our scholars are asked to explain the violent verses, they don't condemn them, they justify them by narrating events that took place 1400 years ago and the moral standards back the. That is fine but then they also reiterate that Quran is timeless and the true moral guide for all humanity. How can those two be true at the same time?
This is what I said in a post in this thread that if tons of misleading material is there of any religion, it is obvious that some people will get radicalized. Why these so called scholars are doing this, I guess somebody is funding them for that.

They don’t need to modified, they need to be studied, analyzed, debated. We cannot wear a 21st century thinking cap and read a 6th century book and we cannot take verses out of context and the situation to which they were revealed to the Prophet at the time. The problem nowadays is people don’t even think, debate, analyze Quran

No one is funding them. It has been a problem for a long time in almost all muslim countries. To condemn any parts of Quran is a blesphemy. Therefore, the only options they have left is to ignore or justify the violent verses to make sense of it all. It doesn't make sense at all because we are seeing the consequences of it now. Hundreds of people are joining ISIS every month because they believe it's true Jihad. Why don't our teachers, scholars, imams, muftis, molvis do anything about it but blame the west? They refuse to see or acknowledge problems within our religious institutions.

This is the case with many religious books and readers. Whatever we have called pious/pavitra, we have maligned, didn't respect.

Actually Theorist the thing is complex, we will have to study about various religions, sects, schools of thought, reform movements and related issues. Differences of opinion exist and that should not go to an extent where we harm others. About ISIS, I would say it exploits/creates feeling that religion is under attack.
