A suicide bombing has hit Saudi Arabia’s city of Medina, close to the Prophet’s Mosque, one of Islam’s holiest sites, al-Arabiya TV and the Okaz newspaper report.
Footage on al-Arabiya showed a blazing vehicle. There are no details of casualties and no official comment.
The mosque is the burial place of the Prophet Muhammad and Medina the second-holiest city in Islam after Mecca.
Earlier, at least one explosion rocked the eastern city of Qatif.
Qatif is home to many minority Shia Muslims and the blast appeared to target a Shia mosque. No casualties have been reported so far.
A suspected suicide bomber also died after detonating a device near the US consulate in the city of Jeddah. Two security officers were slightly injured as they tackled the man, but no-one else was hurt.
Social media footage from Medina showed a vehicle on fire in a car park, with two security officers lying nearby.
Okaz said the blast took place in the evening, at the time of breaking fast, and may have targeted security forces.
It is not clear who is behind any of the attacks.

Seems like there were attacks in Jeddah and Qateef as well, one was targeted at US Consulate. What a bull$hit these bombers are selling by showing 'oh we attacked US Consulate' but hopefully people with eyes and brains can see they do not belong to Islam.

This is what happens when al-Saud promotes the teaching of Wahhabism for more than a century just so they can remain in power. Now with ISIS wanting to create their own Caliphate, al-Saud's own leadership is threatened so they are seeing suicide bombings in their own country.
ISIS just killed more than 200 people in Iraq at a shopping center, 20 people in Bangladesh, many in yemen and bahrain every day.
Apart from their belief that shia or 'rawafid' or christians are all kafir, they also teach about desecrating the graves ..and it is very well be that they might be trying to blow up the Prophet's grave if they did suicide bombing close to Prophet's mosque. They have already destroyed most of Jannat-ul-baqi ... leveled the grave of Bibi Amina, Abdul Muttalib, Abu Taleb, Bibi Khadijah and others because they consider it shirk.
Recently, a year ago or so, they destroyed the shrine of the Prophet's companion Hajr ibn Adi and exhumed his body. They also bombed the shrine where Ammar bin Yasir and Uwais al Qarni are buried. So these are the animals we are dealing with.
Don't be surprised if they level the grave of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) one day. Wahabi cleric appointed by al-Saud overseeing expansion of facilities to Hajj recently published a 64 page article calling to destroy rooms surrounding the tomb that was used by Prophet's wives and daughter Fatima. Not only that, they also called for destruction of prophet's grave and exhuming his body and moving it to an unmarked grave.
These are the animals that we are dealing with today and they are destroying Islamic Heritage. There are toilets built at the place where Bibi Khadijah's house was. More muslims need to stand up and condemn these acts or the day will come when there will another 'Makkah Tower' in place of Jannat ul Baqi (Makkah tower is built on graves of historically significant islamic figures)

Regardless of KSA's policies that most of us disagree with, this was an attack very close to the holy sites. NOBODY should be allowed to express their satisfaction on this tragic news.
Terrorism by anyone at anywhere should be condemned. Period.
There is much more to come about this news. Just pray for everyone to be safe.
It also raised more concerns as in two months there will be a humongous gathering for Haj. Everyone please pray for peace to prevail all around the world!

Suicide attacks hit Madinah, Qatif; 6 killed | Arab News
JEDDAH: Suicide bombers blew themselves up in Qatif and Madinah after sundown on Monday, several hours after Saudi security officers foiled an attack near the US Consulate in Jeddah.
In Madinah, a bomb exploded in the vicinity of a police post outside the Prophet’s Mosque, killing four policemen and two civilians, reports said.
A police source told Arab News that the officers manning the post were having their iftar meal when the suicide bomber struck.
The bomber reportedly asked to join the policemen in having iftar and he was welcomed. As soon as he got near, he exploded his suicide vest.
A video circulated on social media showed a car burning and at least two security officers were seen lying on the open ground and two others lay crumpled near a burning car.
Security forces have cordoned off the Prophet’s Mosque and worshippers were not allowed to get in or out.
Madinah Governor Prince Faisal bin Salman arrived at the blast location and visited Al Ansar Hospital where the victims of the blast are being treated.
In Qatif, a governorate in the Eastern Province, two suicide bombers blew themselves up one after the other outside the Faraj Al-Omran Mosque. No casualties were reported.
The number of fatalities reported does not include the three suicide bombers.
Earlier Monday at 2:15 a.m., a suicide bomber blew himself up near the US Consulate when security officers confronted him as he moved suspiciously at a parking lot of the Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital.
Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki, spokesman of the Ministry of Interior, said the bomber, in his 30s, was identified as an expatriate from the United Kingdom.
Photos taken from the scene showed the bomber’s body partially dismembered by the blast.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks so far. Previous mosque attacks in the past months in the kingdom have been claimed by Daesh militants.

it is becoming increasingly clear that few news agencies are trying to create confusion by declaring it "gas tank explosion" otherwise almost every arab news agency has declared it to a suicide bomb explosion in medina and it is so sad and dishaerated.
who are these people? they are even after Medina. At this point. there is no one on this planet who can explain the terrorism chain logically, strategically and chronologically...it is so messed up that no one really cares anymore....people are just getting immune to all these news in utter desperation....
get this...saudis and turks were apparently supporting ISIS against shia asad but ISIS is on roll in Istanbul and Saudi! whatever

by the way, attack in Medina is not just any other attack (and every attack is equally condemn able) given its emotional importance to muslims....it will create a lot of unrest across the muslims world but as always majority of them will blame jews, hanoods and uncle sam for this attack declaring that no muslim can do this....
watch hafiz saeed and his likes speeches now. they will spread so much hatred against west but will not utter one single word against ISIS and DAESH which is eating muslim societies one by one like cancer
anyway, this is as blasphemous as it gets for Muslims.....but alas they will still not condemn the right enemy
and hey politics will still remain bigger than any blaspheme for all Muslim rulers.

There is a pernicious, disingenuous meme floating around. It goes: "ISIS have killed Muslims in Istanbul, Dhaka, Baghdad and now the holy city of Madina. So leave us alone, ISIS has nothing to do with Islam!"
A) What exactly is the point here? ISIS are still from among us Muslims. They still adopt a version of Islam that happens to be found in our scripture (eg: stone women, kill apostates, chop off limbs) to justify their actions.
B) Think how insulting we sound. 'They can't be Muslims because they're killing other Muslims'. As if killing non-Muslims would somehow make us accept they have something to do with Islam??
C) Religious extremism throughout the ages has targeted its 'own' before others. That's the nature of trying to control people. And that's why extremists were always so concerned with 'heresy' and 'blasphemy'. The 'traitor' from within is always more dangerous, and thus always more strictly punished. The Prophet's own grand children were killed by Muslim extremists known as the khawarij who were reported to be better at reciting the Quran & more steadfast in prayer than anyone else.
D) The fact is, claiming that ISIS has nothing to do with Islam is as unhelpful and ignorant as saying ISIS is Islam per se. It's blindingly obvious they have something to do with Islam and everyone's laughing at us for trying to deny this.
Instead of whinging and making our first reaction about Muslim victimhood, again, why not try being part of the solution by working to challenge extremism?
Or are cartoons the only thing that make us come out in the streets with rage?

One should look at what circumstances led to creation of ISIS. And ensure no unnecessary wars are fought.

One day, we will be taught history accurately and learn from our mistakes.
Not sure pre 1948, there were too many such issues. But the power point generation wants headlines.
Good sound policies lead.to stability and prosperity for all. And not wide scale destruction followed by decades of terror.

They have killed thousands of Muslims across the world in the name of Islam. Syria, Iraq, Saudi, Indonesia, Pakistan, and others.
They desecrated the grave of Prophet's Companion, Hujr bin Addi, in Syria.
They blasted the shrine of the 11th Shia Imam, Hasan al Askari, in Iraq.
They have committed multiple suicide bombings at the shrine of Syeda Zainab, Prophet's grand daughter, Ali's daughter.
And it all started from the lack of reaction from Muslim world when White Daesh was doing this --->
Demolition of Jannatul Baqi, where the graves of Hazrat Usman and Hazrat Fatima are located.
Demolition of hundreds of historic buildings in Makkah and Medina, thus stripping Muslims of sites of their Prophet's era; and in their place making sky scrapers around Kabah reminiscent of Las Vegas.
Yes, ab aag wahan tak ponhchi he.
And now it bags the question. Is Israel really the biggest enemy of Islamic heritage?
