I don’t think we can modify historical/ancient texts and I am not proposing that. I am simply saying we need to teach these problematic verses in full context while condemning them before our children learn them from a bad source. What is happening now is that most teachers completely ignore them or they don’t teach them properly. It becomes a problem when a child learns the violent verses from a bad source and realizes that this must also be true because the Quran says so.

When our scholars are asked to explain the violent verses, they don’t condemn them, they justify them by narrating events that took place 1400 years ago and the moral standards back the. That is fine but then they also reiterate that Quran is timeless and the true moral guide for all humanity. How can those two be true at the same time?
