its a pretty partisan approach by some posters who spring into life pointing the blame at conspiracy theories and hidden hands when their own sect is accused of masterminding attacks on the other, but find no such hands and propaganda for when the attacks are presumed to be committed by the other side.
its ridiculous to discount that certain segment of sunnies/shias are motivated blow up/gun down the other respectively. you obviously have a very naive view of your sect, and are completely ignorant of recent history. and havent lived much in Pakistan.
All the same, I'd like to see the question I asked of Lajawab answered, which he distracted by talking about CNN and George Orwell and a giant conspiracy theory. Which significant sunni religious personages, especially those involved in Iraqi affairs, have actively called their followers to refrain from violence on shias? And is it possible to get fatwas from significant mufties in the Muslim world stating merely to the extent that it is abominable to drive truck bombs into shia markets and mosques. i can point to equivalent fatawa from prominent shia clerics, and consistent discouragement of violence and retaliation from significant Iraqi leaders such as Sistani.
That is demonstrable proof of atleast ideological cleanliness if not actual freedom from the desire to blow up people.

How many shia leaders have called for an END to cursing and disrespect of the Sahaba and wives of the Prophet? None. When such blasphemy continues, how do you expect others to react? Love you for it? Halwa Puriyyaan dain tumain? When some of the actions by shias are those that are done by *heretics *then there is no room for feely goody brotherhood. When shia's undermine Islamic values and islamic personalities by cursing them and disrespecting them... only reaction that is possible is of anger and disdain. So, let's work on the fundation of the problem rather than worrying about why the walls keep falling!

I thought that the whole purpose of the Makkah Document which was writen by 50 clerics from both sides last year would be good enough for people to understand that no sane person supports this violence. I guess I was wrong...
or maybe I am right and sane people are not supporting this violence.

^ yeh moolie he is. but lets focus on the majority of the sunnies who do find it unjustified to bomb shia neighbourhoods, Lajawab is one example.
What is the Makkah Document? Did it get much circulation, first im hearing of it. Who are the clerics behind it?

24 top clerics from both shia and sunni background assembled in makkah to review this sectarian violence from a purely religious point of view, goal was to disspell the crap that the extremists have where they find some justifications to kill others ..either calling them heretics or for cooperation with the foe etc.
This took place in Oct 2006. I will try to find more info on it, but just search for Makkah document in google.
I dont knwo who all was involved in that discussion. I know Ali Sistani did not make it there in person but he had given his ful endorsement to this meeting and the work they were trying to do.

yeah I just googled and the links dont give a good background of who was involved, seems to have involved prominent people though. I recognize a couple of prominent shia names atleast.

This whole Makkah Document is irrelevant.
As long as Shia Death Squads and Sunni Insurgents are killing each other.
The Sunnis will be compelled to help out their Sunni comrades and the Shias to help their Shia Brothers.
The entire region will get entangled in this vortex of violence.
Reminds me when Archduke Francis Ferdinand got assassinated.
The Serbs got help from their fellow Slavic people, Russia. The Austrians got help from their fellow Germanic people, the Germans.
France and Germany were enemies, so France joined to help Russia, etc, etc....
and then you had World War I which led to World War II which led to the Cold War

ravage, u know what the sad thing is, this did nto get much pblicity, in press, I dint know about arab press, but I know it did nto get much publicity in US media, and I dont recall seeing hearing or reading much about it in pakistani media. Yet this is the type of effort that needs to be seen, the message spread..

I think Conspiracy Theroies are formed in mostly 3rd world and poor countries mostly due to a lack of education, the lack of understanding of current world events and media censorship in their countries.
To counter such forces they make up their own versions of the news.
1 - to self gratification that their opinion cannot be subdued by their governments
2 - to make themselves feel significant and thus the whole of the world's news reveloves around them
This explains a lot of the mindset in the Arab and Islamic World
When Princess Diana was killed in a car crash, immediatley there was a conspiracy that the M16 killed her because she was converting to Islam
Or the Jews carried out 9/11
or the Tsunami in Asia was a secret underground Nuclear Test by USA and Israel

But that doesn't explain the western guppy conspiracy theorists who fancy themselves as educated and wordly.
I think for those, it's a lack of rational explanations that fit within their point of view. It is so convenient to blame the Jews or the govt and not have to admit there may be faults in some who follow their belief system. Perhaps the denial, deflect and defame method helps them sleep better at night.
