The gang-like scenario whipped with religious fervor seems plausible. But where are any respected leaders to bring a unified, peaceful sunni message? Why don't international sunni leaders try to help them succeed? It is the only way sunnis will have a pot to piss in the future of Iraq.
And I suppose there are sunni cleris who condemn it. But if they were loud enough (and this is so important, they need to be), I'd have heard them. As you say, politics and religion are very mixed in that culture (and religion), where are the rational voices? If we were talking about a small pool of candidates, I'd understand, but we have hundreds of millions of Muslims around the world who could lift a finger to help.

Lajjo, even if we accept that this is a concerted propaganda campaign to divide and cause infighting, dont you think Sunni religious leaders have a greater responsibility to actively counter this propaganda by doing more than just sitting around pointing at americans? how about an unqualified condemnation for bombings on shias (regardless of the identity of the bomber) once in a while from a significant sunni personage? or a call for sunnies to remain peaceful in response to shia-sourced violence, like the one (and many before this) by sistani?
can you for example ask for a fatwa from sunniqa/sunnipath on this issue?

^^ When was the last time you heard any influential Iraqi come on the television and declare that the occupying forces must leave? When was the last time you saw or heard the plight of a common Iraqi family? On a sidenote, during the recent Lebanon-Israel war, when was the last time you saw footage of what Israel's bombs were doing and killing in Lebanon?
If the news doesn't show it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen and if the news shows it, doesn't mean it's actually happening...

lets forget cnn/fox/mercenery2k/george orwell for the moment. engage my posts on their content without assuming where i get my information from or bringing in anything else. are you aware from your many non cnn non fox non-george orwell type sources of any recent significant sunni fatwa calling for a united front in Iraq and foremostly condemning killing of shias? if you do know of fatwas/positive efforts it would be good to post them here to propagate them. if your not aware of any such fatwa, im sure you have many sources of fatwas at your disposal. can you obtain an explicit fatwa on the legality of bombings on shia neighbourhoods?

We don't know jack about these attacks.. Just use your head for a minute and think about it.. TRUCKLOAD of explosives aren't just bought at the Jumma Bazaar.. It's not like a cargo of aaloos that u carry around with you hiding it from occupation forces till the right time.. The methods and means of these bombings are highly sophisticated indicating the involvement of a military or a secret service at a country level.. rag tag bunch of starving occupied sunnis are incapable of carrying these out.
The best target for sunnis are the occupation forces.. like the four black hawks down and counting.. why would they waste such a golden resource like a TRUCKLOAD of ammo on ordinary Iraqis.. be they shia or sunnis?
