awww :(
Its okay, dont worry everything will be fine inshallah.
I had GD in both my pregnancies. You just have to be very careful. Try to minimize your carb intake.
Learn to read the labels. 15-20 g of carbs every 2-3 hours.
upto 45 g of carbs for your main meals.
Walk walk walk walk. I cant say it enough.
Try to get a little walking in after every meal to bring your numbers down.
REALLY try to walk for 30 minutes every morning.Morning numbers are usually the highest.
I did not have to get c-sections, both of them were normal deliveries. Both babies were around 9 pounds. Both were healthy mA
The sizes they predict are never 100 % accurate, they can really go wrong with those. So dont even worry about it.
Just try and be as healthy as possible for yourself and your baby iA.

Thank God u had normal deliveries. its not her size i m worried abt, its the sugar level which is too mch and if it continues this way or increases God forbid, then def her size will increase further... :(

Yeah, thats why you have to control it RIGHT now. The numbers will keep getting higher untill you give birth.
We normally have babies over 8 lbs in our family, so the 9 lbs didnt really shock me.The doctors were really patient, my first delivery was verrry long and drawn-out, but the baby eventually came out :D
And yeah, shopping is good :D
Im not too sure about your numbers hun, Im in Canada, and we have a different scale.
oh and brown bread is usually the same amount of carbs as white bread.
You just have to minimize carbs, whether brown or white.
Fruit is high in sugar too.Milk too.
You can have protein and greens. Unlimited greens actually.
Just try to look for the nutritional info about everything you eat.

i wanna faint nowwwww... :( if brown bread has same carbs then wot the hell is one supposed to haveeeee its soooo frustrating yar. i m havin low fat milk... is 2 mch of cheerios bad too?
Re: Sugar high... do i have gestational diabetes??
My pregnancy only went upto 31 weeks but before that my glucose tolerance test was also on the border line. My obgyn told me to avoid potatoes , rices basically all high carb foods.
Try to have more protein , fresh vegetables , lentils (daals) . You are in your 35th week , it's like 6 more weeks to go. You can do all this for 6 weeks for the sake of your baby.
I will try to send you a link that I used when I was on diet (before my marriage) it has carb info on many many food items.
I will Insha Allah get back to you on this.

I am not suggesting that you go on atkin’s diet rather just take info on carb contents from above. I think if you will browse a little bit you will get some good low carb food recipes.
Re: Sugar high... do i have gestational diabetes??
mall, I don't know why your Dr said that u r not allowed to have meat. Usually they advise you to consume more proteins (e.g. meat / chicken / fish / egg etc) or at least combine your carbs with them.
I would change my diet to include more protein with something like salad. see how you respond to fruit - for some ppl this really raises their blood sugar level, so you may need to stay well away.
Also, keep away from any fruit juice, it usually raises blood sugar level massively.
Surf the net for GD food plans.
Also, get a blood sugar monitor so that you can monitor your own levels. Don't know about your 160, in the UK its usually anything above (or including) 7.8 mmol 1 hour after eating means u have GD.
mall,
i've been meaning to get back to you on this one... I was tested for gestational diabetes as well and they did the one hour test.... and I came back high. Thing is that I had had cereal for breakfast, and then a snack of paratha (how a paratha is a snack I don't know ) ...anyhow cereal is high in sugar and paratha was also not whole wheat.... so my sugar levels came out high....
I went in for the 3 hour test....where you also have to fast the night before and that one turned out normal because I had started watching my diet carefully....anything and it could shoot your levels up...
Can you talk to your doctor and have them do the 3 hour test so that it is a bit more conclusive.... Also, like everyone said...walk, walk , walk ... and just quit sweets...even though u might be craving them... quit them.... and I have met women with full blown gestational diabetes who have delivered normally.... no need for C-sections...... it depends on how co-operative your doctor is..... try to read up on babycenter of women, and how a lot of them end up having babies natural way....... becoz in america it is the same way in pakistan...kuch hota naheen and all they wanna do is cut you up....
Hope that helps dear.... pm me if you have any questions or wanna share, am here for you ...
thx diamond
i will check out the site and make sure i note down the carbs.

hey rupay thanks! she asked me to have chicken and fish not meat.. i dunno y. but i did read on a website that one shud avoid meat in GD.. so i guess there mite b some reason. i will b increasing my egg and chicken intake though.

hey same thing with me. i loveeeeeee cheerios i cud eat them all day but i spoke to my doc just now and she said if cheerios has sugar in them then better not have that too..so i m left with lil options. normally i have a big bowl of cheerios in morning... is that ok? or do u think it will increase my sugar. i gotta give it a try myself one day and see if it affects my sugar. i m sorry for my ignorance but can u pls explain wot is 1 hr test? and 3 hr test i din understand. u had fast the nite before... shudnt it 8 hr fasting check? my doc asked me to chek fasting sugar which is either low or normal but this 2 hr test(post lunch ie.) came 160 only this time. previously if it was even 130 or plus she told me to have it down. then i controlled on drinks and all and it did come down to 108.. i was soooo happy and then suddenly within few days it came to 160 so it was major shock for me.
my concern is also that she mite b tryin to rip me off. i m not sayin she is but u know these docs, thse days they try to recommend c sections esp the patient is naive and dusnt ask alot of qs. in my case i m tryin to b active and talk to her and i will make sure she gives me enuff reasons before i say yes to c section. btw my blood/urine test came out normal so its just this sugar prb that i m facing.. pls tell me theres hope :(
Re: Sugar high... do i have gestational diabetes??
ok so cud any1 plsssssss tell me wots the range to have GD? or atleast tell me if wot i have is indeed GD?
Re: Sugar high... do i have gestational diabetes??
search for it on barycentre.com I think it has the info.
Re: Sugar high... do i have gestational diabetes??
I was borderline gestational db for my 1st pregnancy. It's still okay because she has asked you to control with food.
If it can't be controlled with food - you will have to take insulin.
I think you can eat 20 grams of carbs a day but no rice, no potatoes, no white bread (puri, naan etc)
Cheerios is a nono. Lay off the sugary cereals. It's only for a few weeks.
Good Stuff you can eat:
Eggs
Chicken
Yogurt
Salad
Lentils
Any vegetables
Fish
Steaks
Hey mall! First of all quit worrying. With your delivery not too far this is the last thing you need to be doing.
Everyone has already given you good advice but some of the things I don't agree with. I am surprised at how many people are worried about cheerios. Cheerios with milk & a teaspoon of peanut butter is what I have been having for breakfast since almost 2 months now & I am sure you already know how bad my sugar levels have been with highs & lows.
Don't know about Dubai. But here in USA after the one hour test they hold you at their place or call you again with an empty stomach and give you this this orange or whatever flavor you prefer juice to see how your body reacts to that. So you are basically not empty stomach. Reason they usually do it in the morning on empty stomach is because women who have GD usually have higher glucose numbers early morning.
Only time they will diagnose you with GD after the first test is if your number comes really high. Like mine came out to be 228 after the first test & they didn't even check any further & put me on a diet & sugar checking routine at that time. I remember trying to justify myself & telling her that I had Fanta day before so maybe its because of that & her response was something like "until unless you gave me fanta in that cup instead of your own urine your number shouldn't be this high.
As far as I know many women actually pass that test & we have automne77's example.
Now what is the range for GD. Well it depends where you live I guess. Here anything above 140 after a meal or above 95 before meals is considered higher than normal blood sugar. That does not automatically mean you have it at the moment. Get the 3 hour test done or talk to your OB about it.
In the mean time watch what you eat. Does not means you can't have rice, potatoes, roti or pasta. You can but you just have to limit it.
Eat frequently but less amounts of food.
Any physical activity after a meal will help those glucose numbers go down. Walking is the easiest & best considering you are pregnant.
Don't stress much either. That makes your number goes high too.
Keep in mind if you do end up getting GD, its not your fault. Its not like you were eating wrong or anything. When we get pregnant our body releases many different hormones. One of them if released too much fights with the insulin that our body naturally produces & insulin helps our body absorb good energy from the food we eat, especially carbohydrates. When the body is unable to absorb those carbs they are left in our blood, hence some of us get that high blood sugar.
I am gonna post my meal routine for you so you'll have an idea. This is what I was given before I was insulin dependent & they did not change it even after I started taking insulin. Mines has probably 30 carbs less than the average amount recommended but that's just because I do not have ANY physical activity due to my inflamed muscle. Also I am writing down my meal timings so you would know how often you are actually supposed to eat & with how much gap. Its basically 2-3 hour gaps.
3 meals + 3 snacks a day
Breakfast Time 9:30 am
2 Carbohydrate choices (one carb choice has 15 grams of carbs in it)
1 serving Meat/Protein
1 serving fat
Morning Snack Time 11:30 am
2 Carb choices (30 grams)
1 serving meat/protein
Lunch Time 2:30 pm
3 Carb choices (45 grams)
Non Starchy vegetables 1-2 servings (in this case most veggies one serving equals one cup)
2 servings meat/protein
1 serving fat
Afternoon Snack Time 4;30 pm
1 Carb choice (15 grams)
1 serving meat/protein
Dinner Time 7:30 pm
3 Carb choices (45 grams)
Non starchy vegetables 1-2 servings
3 serving meat/protein
2 servings fat
Evening Snack Time 9:30 pm
2 Carb choices (30 grams)
1 serving meat/protein
1 serving fat
To make it easier to understand. Read labels before buying any food time. You'll be surprised at how some things have many carbs in them & we think we can have them compared to some other things that have very less carbs in them.
Now that I have learned a lot I have also had ice creams or one or 2 chocolate bites at times & my sugar did not go high & this was without me walking after eating this stuff. You have just have to be smart about what you eat.
Brown bread has the same carbs as white bread & can you eat white bread? Yes you can. Its all about carbs. Hubby knows how to watch for carbs when he buys foods for home now. We recently found a white bread which has very low carbs in it & I can actually have 3 slices versus 1 slice for breakfast or snack & I do fine Alhumdulillah.
oh when I say eating cheerios that means 3/4 cup cheerios with 1 cup milk. It exacts out to be 2 carb choices for me at breakfast & then for protein I have peanut butter.
Some other things to know. Corn & potatoes are highest in carbs, then rice, roti & pasta.
1 carb choice of rice equals 5 tablespoons of cooked rice. So you can have 1 cup or 16 tablespoons of rice with whatever salan you make at home. Making sure that you have some sort of meat in it. Proteins & fiber help battle carbs. If you are unable to have meat. Have an egg. One egg is one serving of protein or 1 tablespoon of peanut butter is one serving of protein as well. Also Almonds & other nuts can be taken to cover your protein requirement.
I know the msg is probably too long & my abdomen is killing me at the moment but had to write this down for you.
Have any other questions feel free to ask. Oh & for heaven's sake do listen to your doctor. Yeah maybe some of them are out there to make money. But they went to school for this. They are way qualified to distinguish between right & wrong than us regarding pregnancies. Just use your better judgement & hun those times have long gone when C sections were considered a big deal. Whatever is good for you & the little princess is what we should be praying for.
Good luck.
Gee Bint, thnx sooooo sooo mch for the detailed reply. v informative and assuring. hugs btw this is the v first time my sugar is this high. its never crossed 130-138. i did have the 3 hr glucose test plus the 1 hr test (orange flav juice) both... but dun remember when exactly, which month i had the test.she asked me to come on empty stomach and i was in hospital for 3 hrs and sugar was checked every hr. out of 3 readings she said one came high but she din make a big deal out of it. she just told me to b a bit careful with carbs thaz all. but this time with 160 sugar she put me on strict diet so it is def serious this time. she has asked me to check my sugar and blood pressure tomorrow evening. if its high or wotever lets see wot she recommends. if God forbid it is, i will ask her abt the 3 hr test.
