55 on 50 is speeding. The fact that the limit is 50 means that it is an offense to drive faster than that.

You are merely being punished for the offense that yourself just admitted to carrying out.

I drive 10mph above the speed limit...and have never gotten a ticket. even when cameras are there. 10mph excess is allowed :)

There's some unwritten rules of speeding.

Under 100 kmph, u can go 10 kmph over
Over 100 kmph, u can go 20 kmph over

with no risk of getting a ticket whatsoever.

UK Gatso cameras are set to 3 mph + 10% of legal speed limit.

So in a 30mph zone , they go off at 35mph.
In a 40mph zone, they go off at 47mph
In a 60mph zone they go off at 69mph.
On a motorway they go off at 80mph.

However, remember that most Gatso cameras don’t have a camera or a flash in them, they are there to scare you into slowing down.

Also, the speedometer on your car actually underreports your speed. My UK Honda Civic would show you doing 100mph when you were actually doing 89pmh (compared my speedometer to my satellite navigation speed), and would show 30mph when you were actually doing 27mph.

I tried it in several different cars and was able to confirm what car journalists reported a while back - manufacturers these days set up their cars to make you think that you’re going faster than you really are, in an attempt to discourage speeding.

:eek: thats it …now I have reason to go even faster. I get told off by my parents for going too fast :frowning:

2 days ago we went Bradford…my bro drove on the way there…took him 2.5 hours. I drove back and it took me 2 hours :smooth: it takes my dad 3 hours sometimes :rolleyes:

80/85 mph was my average speed. I have been driving for 3 years now. I NEVER go at the speed limit…I am always at least 10mph above and havent yet got any ticket. :slight_smile:

Pffft. I drove from Guilford to Kent in 30 minutes on the M25 at midnight. My average speed on my speedometer was about 115mph, so I must have been doing about 102mph in actuality.

The funny thing is I was still being overtaken by cars going faster. Repeatedly overtaken by lots of cars!
