Ok so we had our reception booked at the Marriott, and everything was fine and dandy. Now they tell me I cannot have carpet on the stage, and there cannot be anything covering the stage..I was completely shocked!!! I have been arguing back and forth since our last meeting with the event manager..explaining to her that there HAS to be a carpet on the stage..or there is no stage at all.
Apparently 2 weeks ago one of their employees tripped and fell off the stage because of the carpet. Despite my decorator’s explanation that the carpet will be practically glued to the stage, and there is no way it will move, hell my decorators do runways for fashion shows and I dont see anyone falling off the stage because of the carpet!!! its always the really long heels that contribute to the falling/tripping. So now I am confused…I cant change the venue AGAIN…Marriott will charge me FULL price for a canceled event!! This sucks

I was never told about this....and this new rule was taken into effect 2 weeks ago..... they have photos of desi weddings in their office with carpeted stages....

yeah!! i gave them copies of photos and everything!! they knew from the very beginning that its a desi wedding.............stupid goras....texan goras....

if so, then they are not fulfilling their obligations as far as the contract you signed, you can press forward for a full refund, dont let them bully you into thinking you cannot. have the contract checked out.

So what would be the alternative . is it a single peice stage or satge made up of smaller size stages combined

Yeah..i am going to go there tomorrow and drill their &$#(^$#)&*$(0 :) either they transfer me to a different Marriott who are not that uptight...how about banning alcohol that leads to hundreds and thousands of DEATHS....gora logic is pathetic.... :)

its a certain # of pieces joined together to make up a certain length/size of stage.....the carpet goes on top..hopefully we ll come to a middle ground to make this happen..

the latter wont be possible, yeah put it to em with regards to a venue change, if that is what they say they can do, they ought to compensate you thou.

If its pieces joined togther then its a bigger hazard cause anyone's heel can get caught in the groove between two adjoing peices and person can fall

actually its set in a frame..so there are no grooves...then they tape it up using this really thick tape.....the one used on runways...and auto shows and other stage shows....its covered up with a prelim carpet....THEN another carpet on top..

Did you ask them what alternative they have to make the top of the stage look pretty if they are not using a carpet?

that i will discuss with them tomorrow..they just broke the news to me...hopefully they will have some good news for me...because I cant have a black stage...after spending all that money...I d be better off with a stage looking area without the height...but again...we dont have enough time...they only gave us 3 hours to do the decor..since there is another event going on before us...and to top that....my decorator wants to charge me an arm and leg for extra labor he would have to bring with him... :( I feel like these vendors have all vowed to conspire against the bride..and her budget....no wonder we turn into a bridezillas.... :)

I know the idea of a black stage does not sound nice, but my cousin just had all black. There was a huge black curtained backdrop draped behind the bride and groom and then lots and lots and lots of candles. The bride and groom sat an ivory sofa that popped against the black. And the bride's red was gorgeous with it. It actually looked really nice.
I hope that you get to work it out as planned, but if not, we can help you adapt it :D

Imma gonna try to have them sign some papers etc to make an exception..or something..since my theme is red and gold...i dont know how the black will fit...but yeah the black with candles would look awesome...only if i had neutral walls...but since they are gold :(

Do you have the contract that you signed?????? since contracts are legal documents you can argue through that. If something were not allowed it would have been stated explicitly in the papers that you and a Marriot representative signed.

You know, this is exactly how I felt when, one-month before the wedding, Pakistan started reinforcing that ridiculous no-food rule. It was terrible! Wedding set for the Sheraton a whole year before, and so close to the wedding they started imposing it. There were threats of taking the groom away if anyone was caught breaking that law.

I know....rules should only be enforced from thereon forward...not imposing them on pre-existing contracts...that even sounds illegal...
