I prefer studying individually or maybe i should say i can only study when i am alone in my room and there is no disturbance. Even when i had practise my math, learn some concepts or even design i can never do it in a noisy environment. But i have enjoyed couple of group studying sessions mostly for subjects like cultural, heritage studies where we had discussions on different topics or for Communication where i use to help out my friends :). In that case its lots of fun and basically one is learning and memorizing while just having discussions.
But otherwise i can never study unless i am left alone at my room with no disturbance. Even if i am doing some work and somebody is using comp in my room and doing so silently i would still get distracted lol. So ya thats not a good habbit but its hard to change it. I remember doing an internship with 4 other students and it got hard for me to sit there and design at the same time as listening to them yap yap lol but after few days i got a hang of it.
Back at UET, we had both individual and group study sessions. I think we did more individual study than group. I remember my room and class mate U and I used to meet a couple of guys used to meet for physics in the library. And somehow a rumor started that we were hving fun and having drinks with them (we never did, not sure how someone "saw" us doing that). Soon after one of the guys asked my friend and I out for ice cream and when we said no, he got "offended". We never met again to study.
Here in the US atleast you can do group studies easily knowing no one is going to ask you out. I did some of them doing my undergrad but for grad school, its mostly individual study and some study discussions but not a lot. Alot of my graduate work involves reading studies , research papers and journal articles and evualuating them as i see them. Thats best done individually in my opinion. The fact that i live 45 mins away from teh campus doesnt help either :( I cant take part in study sessions like i want to.
I tend to agree because study sessions always used to turn into love, movies, fashion discussion sessions leaving you frustrated at the waste of time. So always studied on my own and was a B+ to A grade student.
