Everyone has a budget within which to function…sometimes we come across a need to make our budget stretch just a little bit further. Let’s share some ideas on how we do that.
e.g. I used to use Neutrogena Face Wash. It’s not expensive; usually costs around $6 or $7 in the regular grocery or drug store. A couple of months ago I found I had run out and didn’t have time to go anywhere except a local Indian grocery shop that carries products from back home. I saw a selection of bar soaps and decided that one of these might be worth a try.
I picked up Emami gold…for no reasons except that it smelled really rich and intoxicating. Started using it and have found that it lasts waaaaaaaaaay longer than my liquid face wash.
Of course the savings can’t be measured unless you are happy with the results. Fortunately I am. My skin is radiant and moisturized…not overly oily or dry.
Cost $2
Savings per unit $4 plus the fact that it is lasting me longer.
I simply happened upon this saving out of necessity…what have you discovered and actively do to save some money?
I used dishwasher tablets from 'finish' but last month I tried a store brand just for the sake of it and found them equally good if not better AND it costs less than half of what 'finish' costs! :D
For skincare, I used to use MDForte's wash which was about $25 and with shipping it costs about $30. I now use Burts Bee's which is about $9 and even that is a bit much...I'd rather take that down a notch too.
For moisturizing, I was using Obagi's Exfoliating Moisturizer which was about $70 and with shipping $80. I now use First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream...$10 for a tube. Again, still a bit much but you do what you can.
I use Costco brand detergent, fabric softener, dish washing liquid, baby wipes (for the shop), paper towels, toilet paper, sanitizer, etc because these items are usually in bulk.
we ran out of diapers when midget was a baby.. i thought i had a full pack but i didnt… so in the middle of the night husband could only find this cheaper brand and i was so not willing to try them out…for various reasons… rash hojaengay.. it wont keep him dry.. its cheap … lo and behold.. not only were they better in keeping him dry but the fit was much much better…
we havent looked back… genie wears that same brand and we save major cash.
I have done the same in terms of diapers. I need bibs for the little one but I am making them myself coz I have receiving blankets that we didn't use coz he wasn't swaddled.
I pick up organic shampoo and conditioner from winners, I get a lot more bang for my buck.
I used to buy pizza sauce and it would go bad before pizza very back in rotation, now I make a small batch using fresh tomatoes and Italian herb blend. Much better tasting too.
I don't buy buttermilk ever just use milk and vinegar. Have started buying fish detergent from dollar store .
I use old t-shirts and night gowns as cleaning rags and throw them out after few uses, still cheaper than kitchen paper.
wow....look at these great ideas!!!
buying in bulk is perfect for those that have the storage space.......and even when I don't have space I leave things like toilet paper or paper towels in the trunk of the car.
i was using pampers premium brand for diapers its great! but very expensive....switched to huggies but still it costs $18 for one pack which have to be used for two weeks.....now i use bambi brand i get it for $12 and they have 10-20%off offer too....
same with babywipes i use the local brand instead of johnsons baby....
we eat daal sabzi on weekdays n chicken or any kind of meat on weekends only...
i make babyfood baby cereals at home....1small jar of fruit puree is for $3-5 n i bring fresh fruit for $3 which can be consumed four to five times/days....while 1pack of oatmeal can be used for a month...
I am bit of fazoul karch because i dont look for bargains but I don't buy what I don't need. Like if I don't need make up for a year I won't buy unless my products are done.
Hubby, sister and Sil are champion bargain hunters. They use slickdeals, groupon, reward points, negotiations for crazy deals.
I used to use pampers for my son but even with Amazon Mom subscription it was not cheap. Tried small packs of various shop brands and finally I liked Target brand. I find it very much similar to Pampers and the bulk box is much cheaper. If you do lots of shopping from Target, having Target card saves you money as well.
I also make my own yogurt. It does not save a lot unless you eat a lot of yogurt like we do at our home. Also for some reason I like the taste of my own better and it is super easy and almost no work.
What brand was that, if you don't mind me asking? Huggies seems a bit too pricy for me, and everyone says pampers isn't leak proof.
Doubt it would help u unless you live in scandanavia?
Toujour and vibelle
And whaaaaa???!!!!! Aldi exists in USA too??? It has the best milk and bread...and medion is a great brand too for all electronics selling in aldi. They get pretty cool things in the housing dept...quarter the price

I'm not as good with finding deals for groceries, etc...
A lot of friends of mine will travel to different parts of the city to save some serious dollars on consumables. I look for convenience more than anything else. But then I save up on other stuff like splurging on personal care products, personal accessories, etc.
Nonetheless you can save money on many things by offers/promotions which are weekly on in the Western/developed countries on groceries. However there are certain things on which one cant compromise. Still many options. Here Woolworths and Coles are the two major grocery stores and both also manufacture their own products. Many of thee products are no less than in quality than the majors brand names. Like tissues I usually get of are Coles or homebrand by woolworth, they are cheap than kleenex and other brands but quality is same. Many products like Pasta sauce, Tomatoe ketchup, Sugar, butter, milk etc are of very good quality. However some are really not. Like I dont like cornflakes else Kelloges, Cream Cheese and peanut butter of kraft. However Indian shops also have different prices for same masalas and I try to shop from the cheaper one. However one more thing is that if you try shopping for cheaper from stores that are at distance then you must be consuming more fuel so I try locating shops nearby.
Nowadays tomatoes are expensive in Australia, so getting from anywhere is costing you same. Shopping on sat and sundays also make difference but thats rare with me
