Vast majority even do not know the 'disgraceful' meaning of it.
Yes, this word Aurat is somewhat of lower class than khaatoon, if it is used even in Urdu if used in casual way.
Not when it is used in proper way or when it is plural like "Aurtein".
Still the concept is not so deragatory that it should be abolished altogether.

i've also heard some people say the word aurat means "pardah" so women should stay in perda...uh no...it just means woman!
