Re: Stop using the word "Aurat" for women
Never a dull moment on GS . LMAO.
Re: Stop using the word "Aurat" for women
Well there are many such words in urdu that in other language means a lot strange and so there are many words in other languages that are also a lot disgraceful when translated into urdu.. You cant compare them like that unless you know the reason how they came into being.
Re: Stop using the word "Aurat" for women
aaho , I have a very funny and a long story about what you are saying I will tell it some other time . I found out just by chance for Tota ( parrot) people from El Salvador use a word which is a slang for a private part in Urdu.
I was floored when I heard that word at work by chance from a guy from El Salvador
Re: Stop using the word "Aurat" for women
err it means chupi hui.
every word has several meanings so why make an issue out of everything.grr
Re: Stop using the word "Aurat" for women
Aurat means the one that is hidden, not necessarily private part
Re: Stop using the word "Aurat" for women
^ That second translation is objectionable as well. "One that is hidden" reminds of general house-arrest imposed on women by Taliban.
A woman need not be hidden. Not even in Islam.
Re: Stop using the word "Aurat" for women
Funny thing is that Urdu speakers would use words from any language but their own language.
Re: Stop using the word “Aurat” for women
Why should we URDU DAANS care about what it means in ARABIC we aient actually talking Arabic when I SHOUT OI AURAT idher aa ,
just like ISTREE means Wife in HINDI ![]()
Re: Stop using the word "Aurat" for women
Funnier thing is that non-urdu speakers dont know that Urdu evolved from the combination of Arabic, Persian and then Sanskrit and Turkish, so really there are very little words in real urdu that are URDU in nature.
Re: Stop using the word "Aurat" for women
^ ya but now its Urdu so I seriusly dont give a jack about what Aurat means in Arabic or who aaddd Khatmal in Urdu
Re: Stop using the word "Aurat" for women
Khatmal is a hindi word came from Khat (meaning Bed) and mal (meaning whatever)
Re: Stop using the word “Aurat” for women
Others laugh at you for using the word for using the word for “private parts” for women, just like you are laughing at that Hindi word.
Re: Stop using the word "Aurat" for women
YES KHOJI GENIUS ,,,
In Hindi they say Main ISTREE KAY SATH SOTA HUN and we laugh coz we understand the full Sentence modern Hindi is like almost URDU ..
but Arabic is completely different I don wana give example aap aqalmand ho ...
Re: Stop using the word "Aurat" for women
You sleeping with "istree" is better than explaining to Arabs that women are considered private parts by you.
Re: Stop using the word "Aurat" for women
duplicate.
Re: Stop using the word "Aurat" for women

TLK, Urdu speakers tend to not like to use the words of their language. Since Persian and Arabic have been considered "Muslim" language, therefore they prefer using words from these languages than theirs.
Thus many original Urdu words are going archaic. Words like 'aarsi' for mirror (aaina), payrr for tree (darakht).
Can anyone imagine that there be no word for "woman" in original Urdu? No way.
If women were present in subcontinent before Persian/Arabic/Turkish invasion than there must have been some word used to describe women as well.
Anyway. I think we are going outside the scope of this thread. So I stop.
I had a suggestion. Now it up to people to agree or disagree. No need to convince anyone.
To all: "khushi take, khushi no take".
