on monday, which is tomorrow, i am giving a speech in my class explaining this punishment. why am i doing this? a girl in my class gave a speech that there is one woman (i forgot which country, but some muslim country) and she was given this punishment and now she has appealed in high court or something. the point she made was that women are not treated farily in islam and one thing she meant was that ONLY WOMEN get punishment, not men. my speech will explain her the punishment in islam and also tell her that MEN ARE NOT EXEMPT! so this answers your question. it still exists today in SOME countries, not in every country. in Saudi Arabia, they still chop criminals' heads off, have you heard that in any other country? probably not. so some countries still follow strict islamic laws.
now you might say i am wrong about men getting the punishment. yes some women hide adultrer's name and they just don't tell who they had sex with. so in that case, yes the man doesn't get to be punished, which in my opinion is wrong. women should not save men. but if she names the man and both of them are married and found guilty of having sex outside of marriage, yes they are to be stoned to death. need a refrence? read surat Al-Noor in Quran, especially the first few verses.
I hope this answers all of your questions. whether you personally like it or not, that's not islam's problem, that's one particular individual. don't hesitate to ask further questions please.
The suggest that you get hold of some Imam Shiekh Hamza Yusuf and listen to him, I'll bet my bottom (Euro) Dollar that the great shikeh has a talk on this issue or a related issue.
pakbeast i hope u have done some research before you talk infront of so many ppl
talk about how much importance Islam gives to women....tell them what kaafir were doing to infant baby girls before Prophet Mohummad..they were burryin them alive..Prophet stopped this...tell them what Prophet has said about mothers..Heaven lies beneath the feet of a mother..i think its such a great saying of our beloved Prophet...and i wish u could find so much more and talk bout women
i am not sure what punishment is for adulty but tell them its such a bad sin..i mean it ruins lives...plus if your religion condems this act like this then why do it? is it a good thing to sleep around while u are married...
sheraz, i have done research on it. first i went to different websites but sometimes i found different sayings or punishment on different websites.....that's when i decided to read Quran's translation by myself. I studied Surah Noor and you can check it. this surat talks about adultary and the punishment. let me paste a few verses here.....
"The woman and the man guilty of illegal sexual intercourse, flog each of them with a hundred stripes. Let not pity withhold you in their case, in a punishment prescribed by Allâh, if you believe in Allâh and the Last Day. And let a party of the believers witness their punishment. (This punishment is for unmarried persons guilty of the above crime but if married persons commit it, the punishment is to stone them to death, according to Allâh's Law)"
"And those who accuse chaste women, and produce not four witnesses, flog them with eighty stripes, and reject their testimony forever, they indeed are the Fâsiqûn (liars, rebellious, disobedient to Allâh)."
And NYAhmadi, i am afraid to say that i am sure what you are trying to say. could you please explaing it?

What research is needed to realize that stoning an individual is cruel and inhumane punishment? It is sick.

if the urge to sleep with another person is so strong then i suggest they change the religion first..now thats not so sick is it
now you see why we have such strict punishment for adultery in our religion..in the west sex is so common..when ppl get married here, they have had many partners in the past..so its not a big deal if one cheats on his/her spouse..the most they do is get a divorce…but sex is nto a game in our religion
Sex is not a game, but throwing stones at someone until they die is?
That's warped. Why can't you leave it up to God and the individual for the punishment? Why does society have to get involved? It's none of your business.
statements like this make it sound like people in west have nothing else to do but have sex with anyone they see on the streets. Our brothers back home hear such stories and are usually very excited to immigrate and when they come over here and after years of stay here, closest thing they find to sexual experience is their "quatarly" relationship with the porno machine.

i think your asummption is wrong . no religen promotes or tloerates
adultery. men or women gets mad when other partner cheats that is universal human feeling.
So, does having such a brutal punishment has served its purpose yet? Have we actually got a lot of good out of such punishments? Are Muslim societies the best in the world? Isnt it true that there are more frustrated people in our societies than in the west?
Sex is not a game in Islam but hurting people in brutal ways certainly is. Doing this makes you die and doing that brings you lashes. Doesn't Islam breeds violence in Muslim societies in a certain way? Is this the reason then that certain Muslim factions make it a child's play to kill people?

we are talking about adultary ONLY. yes this punishment has served its purpose. if not no one, then less people in pakistan or muslim countries cheat on their spouses than in western countries.
