My porfolio has gone up more than 11% thankx to MFNX (up more than 60%). DRIV is rebounding rather slowly and UIS is still dribbling....other are just holding ground, no major improvements.
minhaj: don;t worry, AOL is in a slump, it will bounce...
Perennial favourites INTEL, MICROSOFT, CISCO, IBM, ATT, GE, AOL will continue to do well for eg ... AOL split 3 times last year thats a 800% increase in your portifolio....
As for the Dell's -and Internet stocks - I'd be careful - these companies valuation is based on speculation and short term profits.... Many of them are in an intensley compettive market with few barriers to entry.... - u can play with internet stocks in small amounts like 25K or soomething but if u are a serious investor ... invest with either blue-chip stocks or mutuals....
I am a serious investor and my portfolio has grown abt 37% compounded annually over the past 6-7 yrs ..... but if u remove the spike years its closer to 16% which is 5% over the 11% avg....
The thing with stocks is that easy come easy go.... u wanna trade in a systematic basis and dont let the adrenalin get the best of u ....
Wow jack, you seem like a serious big time investor, gives us some more tips, otherwise we will lose it all!!!
atis was on cnbc, they are at 2.50 now, they were just approved(or will be soon) to market invitro synthesized skin…
also, wcol was 5 dollars last week and is now at 10.25
Investment is mostly abt common sense and self-restraint....
Read the Book by Warren Buffet....
The key ingredient to stock picking strategies is to discount past successes coz they have no bearing on future success. you can gauge the skill of the management team etc etc ... but in reality study the future of the company based on the merits of their forecasts and planning......
Look at general demographic trends.. both of investors and of the consumer market.. its ppl that drive economies .....
Look at undervalued stocks - and the company's potential in IP. Every company hits a downturn once in a while and the stocks get killed... avail of the opprttunity and make money on the rebound ... so u gotta understand product & market business cycles....
Refrain from speculative stocks .... (with excessive P/E ratios )
well.... it was a nice ride.. MFNX and DRIV fell across the board...But they still fared pretty well compared to how they were performing last month. Hold you breath!!
I'm crying now...i've lost over 20% of my investment!!!
All these tech/internet stocks better go back up!!!
I've learned that as soon as you have made your money, sell and buy again when it goes down, because after a swift rise, it will go down!!!
Think of it as money spent to learn about investing. You're better informed now then you were when you first got into the market. So now, you're adrenalin should be down and you could think with your head, instead of your heart!! Don't be depressed, cause if you are, then you're in the wrong place. Sit still, hold your ground and observe the trends. :)

I agree with ghalib, aol is at 118 now...i think that this is the time to buy because it is bound to go up soon, the only reason it is doing badly is because everyone rode on the tail-coats when it was rising and so they took their profit and left when it was at the top(175), thus it fell...and it will go up again soon...I'm going to rebuy more aol as soon as it starts to rise again but be sure to sell when it hits another high!!!
I've lost 10% of my investment because the NASDAQ is doing so poorly while the DOW is at 10750...
Gentlemen,
I Bot American Online on a Margin Account. It was not my money. My assests would be liquidated had I not done so my self.
It was a childish blunder to buy at a high, but as you know with Margin buys time runs out.As it did with me.
I don't understand?????
How come cpq and msft went down???
Both had their earning reports and msft was 43%over estimated...but, practically every other internet stock went up...rnwk's report came out to it it was negative and it still went up 14 today and 52 yesterday(because it announced a split)...how does this madness work????
