Hi,
So what internet brokerage firm do you guys use ? Is it really safe to invest online ? I know that it costs lesser, but isnt a live broker a more secure way ? Is anyone affiliated with Waterhouse Securities, Washington Mutual, or own Lucent Tech or CSchwab Corp ?
Also, is anyone in Florida ?

You have many options when it comes to choosing a broker for yourself. It all depends on the level of service and support you need when making transactions. If you consider yourself a novice who needs support and advice then CSchwab and Dreyfus and other big brokerage houses will suffice. But keep in mind that they require a significant minimum balance (its significant for me, your case might be different :))

If you're moderately confident about investing, go with E-trade.

If you want access to the market without any of the support, Brown & Co. offers trades for $5 and Suretrade offers for $7.95 and Scottrade offers for $7.

Happy hunting!

kiran I can come to FL where are you @?
and to all your other questions the answer iz yes. happy investing people

Suretrade is the best I think since they are only 7.95 and they do not require any minimum balance.
My friend is having trouble with e*trade, he sent in the $1000 minimum 2 weeks ago and they still haven't let him trade! And it is 14.95 but it does let you into ipos.
Ameritrade is also 8.00 but i know nothing about them

Where/Are you in Florida?

Hey,
Thanks for all the advice. This is my first time posting a message, I ususally chat live, so I had no idea how fast I would recieve responces. I am in Miami, Florida. Ghalib, I too like e-trade, but K2pk is your friend still waiting to trade ??? I do not want to be stuck in a situation like that, especially with the way the markets been lately. Regarding minimum balances, what I'm doing is transferring funds from my cds to whatever firm, cds are good for a dependable interest but comparitively stocks are worth practically triple.(sometimes!) Iron Man nice to meet you. K2pk do you use Suretrade ?

AOL all the way, this is the only stock I have made any money on :):):)

Kiran, yes I do use Suertrade, so far for 2 months use, they have given me no problem except for being very slow initially in letting me trade after receiving my deposit
Yes, there is a better return in stocks than cds but it is more risky too!!!
Does anyone know in depth about Mutual Funds???

My sister is in Ft Lauderdale and I am in Gainesville

Gainsville ? Are you attending the University of Florida ? I am at the University of Miami. I checked out Suretrade, sounds good, thanks.

Kiran, yes I am at UF, go gators!!!

Suretrade is the best so far, signup as quick as you can...

Time to sell?

Sell what?

Ghalib, I mean AOL..i just sold it at 151, man it was at 166 yesterday…oh well, you learn not to get greedy…

I think i’m going to quit stocks for a bit, with a 4000 investment so far, i have made only 80 dollars over 6 weeks, and that was all due to AOL…ahhhhhhhh
This stuff isn’t for me right now!!!

Dude... i think taking a wrong approach to investing. Now, I am not saying that I know in's and out's of investing, but I do know enough to realize when to stay put and when to bail out with what you have. I told you before, you're looking to make a quick buck as somewhat of a day trader and you have almost all the odds against you.

Gotta be patient. Remember the time I told you that my portfolio was down arounf 20%, well, now it is up 11%. MFNX announced 2-for-1 split and I can just feel that this stock is going to be o.k. But I am not gonna take my profit, yet! I will put more in it because this stock has the potential to split again.

The point of all this is that you gotta be patient. I don;t have the stats. on the day traders, but from what the stories i have read, for every one person that makes a killing in day trading, there's gotta be atleast a 100 who loose big time.

I think you;re lucky that you didn;t loose all of your investment or a good chucnk of it. As I said before, think of it as a crash course in stocks where your paid the tuition with money you lost. Don't leave the stocks man, just have a definite time horizon when you get into it next time.

See you back in the market! :)

Salaam ghalib bhai, looks like I'm out of it, I'm going to invest in another car(actually my father is paying :)) and I'm going to have fun instead of worrying about money!!!

I'm thinking about sticking the money into a mutual fund...there is one that caught my eye...the ipo fund :):):)

Good luck!
