So let’s say you’re on a low carb low fat diet, can you eat stir fry veggies cooked in a tbs of olive oil, with seasonings, no rice? Is that low calorie?
Re: Stir Frys and Dieting
im pretty sure thats low calorie!
Re: Stir Frys and Dieting
That's what i think as well.
Re: Stir Frys and Dieting
yes you can - stay away from sauces made from corn strach . Or just put a table spoon for flavor.
Instead of using rice or noddles - you can pour your stir fry on top of shredded salad.
Re: Stir Frys and Dieting
great idea njgal.
What I usually do is taking some frozen stiry fry veggies, add some cabbage, green onion and stiry fry in 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add some low sodium soy sauce, black pepper and this chinese hot sauce. It's yummy just this way. No need for any cornstarch. And I don't miss the rice.
I just wanted to know if it is healthy and a good meal if someone's on a low carb/fat diet.
Re: Stir Frys and Dieting
yeah.. when i was dieting i used to stir fry them with S&P & would have a fillet of sole (fish) with it ! tasted awesome!

Yes, that is definitely low calorie! And there are numerous benefits in olive oil.
Nick, you can even buy the frozen stir-fry veggie packs from the grocery store (Walmart, etc). They come with a frozen sauce that you heat with the veggies.
You can read the label to compare calories, etc. And for the kids....you can even throw in a few noodles in there.
If you want add protein...and some chicken to stir-fry. But to answer your question...yes it's low calorie.
Re: Stir Frys and Dieting
Thanks RV, this is what I usually do, but I avoid the store pre-made sauces just because kids prefer mommy’s
!!!
If you can make the sauces on your own, then more power to you girl! :biggthumb
Re: Stir Frys and Dieting
eat it as long as you know ure not full. I guess that'll keep it to a low calorie. Avoid them for sometime until you're done with your low calorie diet.
Re: Stir Frys and Dieting
yes it is low calorie as long as you dont eat til ur stuffed (as mentioned by FF).
FF, please elaborate that ![]()
The basic principle is that you will lose weight (with diet and exercise) and also if you consume less calories than you burn.
So, keeping that principle in mind, i think what FF is trying to say is that you can overload on calories by not implementing moderation (even with low calorie foods).
A medium sized apple might have about 45 calories. And is a healthier alternative compared to a single 90 calorie chocolate chip cookie. But now if you eat two apples…it’s the equivalent of 1 cookie. See what I mean? Quantity plays a role as well.
Re: Stir Frys and Dieting
OK that makes sense. I thought he meant that maybe eating all those veggies isn’t good for you ![]()
Re: Stir Frys and Dieting
those packages with the sauces inside are high in sodium, HFCS, calories etc, avoid them.
add some strips of chicken, lean strip steak, shrimp or even tofu to add some protein in there.
Re: Stir Frys and Dieting
Shrimp is haram :nono:
Indeed, it is if you are among my jewish friends, shellfish and shrimp etc is not allowed per their belief.
as far as muslims go, at most it is makrooh, which in itself is a wishy washy word. There is no agrred upon view of it being haram and it has not been deemed haram in the quran.
and as far as haram things go..
so is facebook ![]()

I lost 7 kgs in 3 weeks.. I just had soup and stir-fry veggie's! I had a whole-wheat dinner roll once in a while too..
Re: Stir Frys and Dieting
^ Why would you torture yourself by eating just stir frys and soups??? And for 3 weeks ![]()
People think low fat food = boring meals, but there are many low fat, healthy meals you can make, without restricting yourself to such extremes…i just don’t know any of them ![]()
