-you might want to check your pillow....perhaps it's time for a replacement. are you getting proper pillow support? perhaps your neck is tilted too much? when you get ready for bed tonight be sure to check your neck and shoulder alignment.
-on the computer for too long? your job already requires you to be on the comp all day...maybe you need to relax and give yourself a break from the comp when you are off the job. give it a try and see if that helps.
-i was once told that if the shoulder rest of your chair is too high that can also lead to a stiff neck...so double check that as well.
-are you lifting weights? is so check your posture and make sure you arent lifting your shoulders up to high.
-lastly, it could just be stress related. sometimes when you are stressed you dont realize it but you tend to raise your shoulders into your neck (not sure if that makes sense but hope u know what i mean) which can also cause a stff neck. they dont say "carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders" for nothing you know.
try using a neck pillow while driving or on the comp...see if it helps.
OK, take a warm shower and let the warm water fall on the neck for a while. Later. Roll a warm wet towel under the neck and lie down straight. Keep the neck mobile. Continue 800 mg Ibuprofen round the clock for 24 hours. It should help. And if possible stay away from the computer!
roll a towel that adjusts unde your neck .sleep on the floor(not on the bed) with ur face directing upwards.it always helps my stiff neck even if i lie for an hour.dont use anthing else under ur head .ur head shud touch the floor.i hope it gets better
I had some kind of pinched nerve in my neck and it was the most painful experience of my life - childbirth included. And there was this physical therapist that I finally (and thankfully!) found who used some kind of laser light treatment on my shoulder and neck. MAN-o-MAN!! I was SOOO much better after the very first treatment, it was SUCH a releif! I'm sorry I dont recall more than this but it was some kind of light which is placed all around the area that hurts and I think it was laser. Will try to google it later if i can but maybe you could look into this too.
I had the same pain very recently and it lasted for about 6 weeks. started from my neck moved to shoulder and right arm to hand. Most terrible experience of my life. Couldn't sleep on my sides for 2 monhs. Right arm and hand became very weak.
I had treatments from osteopath and was told it could be pinched nerve. after 6 treatments from osteopath I was reffered to the GP who recommended x-ray. X-ray report showed narrowing disk space at some location. GP reffered me to orthopedic surgeon in hospital. Have been more than 2 months and I am still waiting for doctor's appointment. Thats how the NHS is in UK.
Pain has gone by itself but my right arm is still very weak comparing to the other side. I notice this in gym during workout.
^ wow, sounds exactly like what happened to me. a few years ago i was using my pc waaay too much for my undergrad thesis (not typing either, a lot of mouse movements for plotting results). i was in so much pain at my neck and shoulder and my hand was numb and i couldn't get a proper grip on anything. at least your gp recommended a x-ray, my gp brushed me off with an 'inflammation' and told me to take painkillers. i barely used my computer for the summer after my exams and it was ok for a while but as soon as i was back at uni for my masters and in front of the computer, the pain and numbness started again. after 3 years now, i'm just used to it :( i have to limit how much time i spend on the pc so it doesn't flare up. which is a bummer coz i used to play soo many computer games and now i can't play anything that requires too much use of the mouse, so no more first person shooters for me :(
